I am familiar with this textbook since the 3rd edition. I consider this textbook one of the leading (if not the best) for the field of molecular immunology. The organization and structure of chapters differs from those in, for example, Janeway's Immunobiology, but this falls into personal preference and needs. This book is food for undergraduates, graduates and professionals who want to learn immunology from more biological and less clinical perspective. I work in cancer research, however I use this book frequently - it is very useful to get info related to different aspects of cancer research: immunotherapy, immunobiology of tumors, tumor microenvironment, etc. In addition, this textbook is one of the most affordable books. After bying the book, one can use the book's website, where it is possible, for example, to download images, which is very practical for presentations.

This text is appropriate both for the novice and for the reader who is educated in the field but wants an update. The writing flows beautifully. The authors do an excellent job of identifying the most fundamental concepts and organizing the text around those basic concepts, yet there is a remarkable amount of detail.

Has the plusses and minuses you'd expect from an immunology text. Covers the field, well indexed, illustrations are consistent and helpful. But Immunology is too big for a textbook to double as a handbook. The present edition is noticeably drier than the previous one because examples and sidelights have been reduced to fit the new material into a constant number of pages.

This book was required for my medical school immunology course. Our professor assigned the book to read in about a week and a half, rediculous! Few people read it. I used it as a reference source. To learn the material on a first pass, I recommend Review of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, Tenth Edition (LANGE Basic Science) and I'm sure the new edition would be even better. Even Lange will only get you started, as it leaves out a lot of detail and leaves some questions unanswered.

In summary, use Lange to get a good USMLE high-yield baseline then either hope you have a good professor to teach the material ( like I had) or dig through this book to answer any burning questions.

One of the most things i like from Abbas Books , is the Text-to-Speech. You can activate it and listen some informations from the book on a travelling in a metro , bus or something like that. It's real useful , the Abbas Textbook and Kindle tools able you to study immunology everywhere.
The Book is deeply analysis over the experimental science called Immunology but don't turn it so boring like Clinical Oriented Anatomy by Moore. I really realized by buying this book to study for second year of medicine. A the first time , i stayed frozen by buy a expensive digital book but it was a good investment.

I had to study "Immunology I" completely from this book, since the lecture wasn't offered in English and my exam was going to be based on it. Studying with this book was very tedious - usually I like summarizing chapters, but for some reason, the authors made it unnecessarily hard for this one.

The writing is often unstructured, highly redundant and somewhat rambling. While cross-references are not bad per se, they come with too many variations and additions here (and are generally too long), so it becomes hard to distinguish between what is is important and what a mere introduction/repetition that can be skipped. This way, large portions of text only contain little information (particularly irritating was the persistent use of the all-encompassing term "cytokines" - I had to go back and forth between the current chapter and chapter 12/Wikipedia to learn which molecules are actually involved). Also, sometimes the authors discuss sequential events not in the order they happen, which is didactically questionable. The abundant figures are a plus, but some don't support clearly what is described in the text.

On a positive side, due to the many repetitions, this book might be suited for people who prefer to read large sections without taking notes. It does seem to cover all the important topics in-depth, lists and explains scientific experiments which have lead to milestone discoveries, and provides litereature references in each chapter. But ultimately, if I was given the choice between this book and another, less descriptive, more structured and concise one to study with, I would gladly pick the other one.

This is one of the best textbooks you'll find for general immunology. The drawings and illustrations are great. The previous version is fine too but at the speed that immunology is advancing, in part due to AIDS and transplantation research, I recommend you stay up-to-date.

The book is very complete and the on line version is good to use the images.
