Book Description

December 1996
A collection of stories, poems, songs and texts, showing how the bardic and druidic lore sought to teach and guide many of our ancestors. The authors, both of whom are musicians and storytellers, trace the tradition from its mysterious beginnings in pagan religion through the Christian period to a living oral tradition in the present century. This book aims to reinterpret the bardic tradition for a contemporary audience.

This review is from: Celtic Bards, Celtic Druids (Hardcover)
The druid portion (1/4) was short but correct; the bard portion (3/4) was very good, very informative and fun to read. It has many Bardic poems written in one book instead of several references. Books that describe what a bard is are few and far between - this book was a treasure that breaks that mold.

I have studied druid and ovate systems for decades, and could not find good material virtually exclusive to bards. This book is delightfully the exception! Most books refer to bards and bard training only in passing - this book goes quite in depth. Not limited to the practical, but also the philosophical and spiritual aspects as well. It defines a missing quality we need to get back into our culture - our history, our lore, and our ancestors.

If you like Celtic history, druid, ovate and Bardic lore you need this book. If you want to understand what being a bard specifically is, this is the book!
