Celtic Coloring Book Conducive to Creativity,
By
This review is from: Celtic Design Coloring Book (Dover Design Coloring Books) (Paperback)
I would recommend this coloring to most adults, but probably not for kids. Some of the pages contain some drawings with very tiny lines. There are plenty of pages to keep you going, so you won't be disappointed. I found these images to be wonderfully authentic and fun to color. You'll want to hang your finished masterpiece on the wall or fridge, and you might even ponder framing it! I discovered this to be a theraputic activity after a long day of work. I had a lot of fun coloring and even shared with some friends!

Beautiful Celtic Designs For Coloring!,
By Daniel (Virginia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Celtic Design Coloring Book (Dover Design Coloring Books) (Paperback)
This is a really nice Celtic line art illustration book for coloring. All of the Dover coloring books are top of the line, and this one is no exception. Features a few examples from the legendary "Book Of Kells" itself, as well as general celtic surface ornament from various sources. Also, the designs are "copyright free" for any craft project you may wish to use them in. Exellent for any crafter's library.

This affordable, sometimes hard to find book is an excellent resorce for designers and artisans (including tattooists) designs from the Book of Kells are rendered in thick clear black line.

I found the VERY thick, chunky black outlines to be a bit too bold for my taste as an adult.
Printed on quality paper stock, as all Dover publications are. These designs would be great for marker use but although the printed heavy white paper is higher than average quality, the ink still bleeds through to the other side. All but one of the designs are printed back to back on the pages, with the exception of the center pages, which is two pages of a Celtic portrait of St. Matthew that can be removed, with nothing printed on the back of either page so markers can be used on it. If colored pencils are used for this book, prepare to use up a lot of color, as the designs are fairly large with a lot of open spaces. Each design has a small descriptive caption at the bottom of the page. Good thing, too as otherwise I wouldn't have known what I was looking at. Since the design outlining is so bold, these would probably be good for photocopying on heavy paper to recolor over and over or to use markers on. I gave it a three because of the too-bold-for-my-taste outlining. Plus, it doesn't give me that 'gotta do some coloring in it' feeling when I pick it up like my other coloring books do. I'm an adult and in my free time a coloring fanatic :) but I don't know, this book just doesn't excite me for some reason. I think its the lines...yup, that's gotta be it.

My only complaint is that there is some slight "bleed thru" when coloring the pictures with markers. However, coloring with pencils or crayons presents no problem. If you have access to a copier and want to keep your books pristine, copy off the page you wish to color...and no, that's not intended to say, "Commit copyright infringement"...lol.

This colouring book is great for people interesting in celtic culture. It would not be as great for kids because the illustrations is a bit too serious. As a person who find the Celts very fascinating it's great, but I don't think it would be as great for people without an interest in the subject.

Colored pencils and complex pics equal a great stress reduction tool. This a wonderful book for that purpose.

I give this book 5 stars. I am interested in embroidering these designs, and the book is ideal for my purposes. I also purchased the newer Book of Kells coloring book, and the smaller designs in this book, which are shown with greater and clearer detail, are better for my use.

I wanted something different to stretch my creativity. Boy did this fit the bill. I enjoy this better than my celtic stained glass coloring book. If you like celtic designs then this book is a must.
