5.0 out of 5 stars Making Every Day Sacred
This is a wonderful book. In modern times we have lost the sacredness of every day activities and Celtic Devotionals helps us reclaim it. The prayers for soul-protection are lovely, and everyone should take time out to answer the Solar Questrions and think on the Lunar Meditations. This book has found its way into my own daily devotions and I would recommend it for...

3.0 out of 5 stars Does not claim to be a Christian resource
I found some helpful ideas to perhaps incorporate in my daily prayer life, like the solar and lunar questions for reflection, but mistakenly thought this book was about Celtic Christianity. It is not, nor claims to be. My bad. Just a heads up to anyone looking for a Celtic Christian devotional. This work explores pre-Christian Celtic spirituality, as stated in the...

5.0 out of 5 stars I wish I could give it more stars!, July 24, 1998
By A Customer
I bought this book about 3 years ago and it remains one of my very favourites. The meditations and devotional practices are poetic, visual and extremely beautiful. It combines equisite expression with practical concerns of everday and resonates with sacredness. Although it is written primarily in the "celtic flavour" it could be used by many other spiritualities to connect with the Divine. Brilliant. Mystical. Thought provoking and inspirational - I love this book and would give it to anyone I love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fills a need for your everyday routine made holy, March 22, 2004
For those of you who may be skeptical about this as a "new age" gaullimaufry of whimsy or wistfulness, be assured that this little guide helps you direct your meditations and actions effectively--out of navel-gazing into both the natural and what for most of us is the artificial, urban, mundane world.

A helpful counterpart for Alexei Kondratiev's more detailed explanations of Celtic Reconstructionism in his book on context and ritual, "The Apple Branch" aka "Celtic Rituals." Combined, the two work well to explain the Celtic worldview in a sensible, ethical, and outwardly-focused manner, in a way that both a monotheist and a more "flexible" seeker could appreciate.

I rarely give five stars, but as reviewers have noted, this little vademecum ("Take me with you!") satisfies a way to make the rather daunting erudition of Kondrateiv a bit more digestible in a recommended daily requirement dose!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is my daily devotional book, March 6, 1999
By A Customer
The Celtic Devotional is my daily working book of evening and morning prayer and meditation. The seasonal rythym is both grounds and expands my soul work.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent guide through the Celtic year, September 10, 2005
This review is from: Celtic Devotional: Daily Prayers and Blessings (Hardcover)
I keep this devotional at my bedside, and the simple rituals "bookend" my day -- it's the first thing I reach for in the morning, and the last thing I read before falling asleep.

The Celtic Devotional is an excellent guide through the seasons of the Celtic year, while bringing a sense of the sacred to each and every day. Each season has poem-prayers, and activities that can be done throughout the period for a "big picture" approach to spirituality. In addition, the daily devotional framework provides time and "space" for silence, movement, active meditation on a question or issue, and lyrical prayers, that are as rich with meaning as the most complex poems.

The sturdy, hardcover book is beautifully decorated with Celtic knot designs, primitive woodblocked images, and areas of illuminated text. While it seems that this would make the book too "busy" to look at comfortably, I find the variety of artistic styles enriching. There's always something different to look at -- something reflective of each season.

Finally, I love the selection of prayers at the back of the book for nearly every occasion you can think of. Some I have used in personal ritual practices, some I find comforting, and their brevity makes them ideal for meditation.

If you have an interest in Celtic Pagan Spirituality, or even Celtic Christianity, I would urge you to explore this book to help you make your spiritual explorations concrete.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a book I've given to all my children, August 18, 1999
By
I bought this book for myself. I found myself buying copies for my children and my friends. Hopefully one day, my children's children will take comfort and joy from this lovely devotional. I have friends who have copied portions to comfort relatives in times of loss, and others who have copied portions to remember life is good and filled with joy. I am thankful, it is back in stock!

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars is All?????, May 4, 2003
By A Customer
I'd give it more if I could...This book is fantastic. The way it is "set-up" is a little odd at first, but you get the hang of it quickly. The writing is beautiful, gentle, kind, I wanna say more, but you get the picture. It is definatley not the type of book for a (shall I say) non-believer in all things spiritual. It's spiritual and celtic, "other-world" has invoking prayers, etc. It's not hokey by any means, but if you are not open-minded you MAY think so. Someone who is ready for the right teacher to appear will be ready for this book. If this book (or author) find their way to you, consider it a blessing and read her. You'll be pleased the universe brought you together.

I loved this book,I read it all in about an hour. The devotionals in here are very beautiful. I enjoyed the solar questions very much. This book goes by the four major Celtic holidays Samhain,Imbloc,Beltaine, and Lughnasadh. It has devotionals for each day and inside each season. They have extra devotionals at the end of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Just for the Celtic Path, June 1, 2005
By
This review is from: Celtic Devotional: Daily Prayers and Blessings (Hardcover)
Thank you Caitlin Mattews!! I was looking for a frame work for daily devotions and I'm pleased to say that this a most wonderful companion on my daily walk with Diety. The Prayers are poetic and beautiful, the solar and lunar questions are wonderful for meditation and journaling, the additional prayers for "the house of life" are extremely well written....I can't begin to say enough good things about this book! For those looking for a closer alignment with the Goddess, in addition to this book I would recommend Patricia Monaghan's "The Goddess Companion: Daily Meditations on the Feminine Spirit". Sometimes instead of the solar question, I'll use the reading in Ms. Monaghan's book.
