Fascinating, dark and complex,
By
This review is from: Celtic Evil:: A Fitzgerald Brother Novel Roarke (Paperback)
If your inner editor will struggle with grammar and word-choice issues, Celtic Evil is probably not the book for you. But the story has more to offer the interested reader. The author creates a fascinating cast of characters in the five Rourke brothers, each differently skilled and differently called to return to their ancestral home. Their parents died fifteen years previously and the boys have lived separate lives. But evil is rising and they need to learn to trust each other and their friends if they're to defeat it.
This isn't a story of simple magic, but a much darker tale where the malevolent Sebastian seems to start with all the advantages and all the history. The brothers have to heal from wounds of the past, while fighting present peril and learning not to fight each other all the time. Banter round the breakfast table is very nicely done. Magic and reality are molded in a pleasing blend. And true love wins through. The story's a fun and intriguing read, as long as your inner editor stays quiet, and a fine introduction to the series.

This reminds me of Harry Potter. Those educated readers who understand and enjoy mystical stories with standup characters will definitely enjoy this book. From what i've read (and i'm not into witches or deamons) it is extremely well written. I rate this with a '5' because of the story-line and character portrayal. I highly reccommend this book. Frank

Family Triumphs,

This review is from: Celtic Evil:: A Fitzgerald Brother Novel Roarke (Paperback)
I found the premise of this novel extremely intriguing. Five brothers, all former Irish singers, are linked together against an evil force.
I felt especially sorry for Roarke's troubles with the Walshes. As for why, you'll just have to read it. The magic in this tale is a major part of the story. In fact, it is the story, and the way that Rose works it in comes off as genuine. The magic (or the Craft as it is sometimes called) seems to be joined with heredity in the world of Celtic Evil (as is mentioned--a hereditary witch). This lends the fact that these brothers are all a part of The Five more validity. It might appear that this is just another 'good vs. evil' story, but it is really more about family ties and that's what makes it work. I found the backstory about the island quite well developed and it is a vital part of the plot so I'm glad it was expanded upon as the novel went on. All the brothers have their specific personalities but somehow manage to work it out when it counts. I think this is the way that brothers are supposed to act, but speaking from experience, they do not always act this way. I'm glad Rose portrayed the brothers as fighting sometimes, even in the midst of critical moments. After all, it only takes one of The Five to fall. It was a special treat that Rose included bits of the brothers' native language in the book. Thanks to her I am now familiar with some new phrases. As this is the first book in the series I am anticipating more. Hopefully the story will be explored to an even greater degree.

Great read!,
This review is from: Celtic Evil:: A Fitzgerald Brother Novel Roarke (Paperback)
This novel grabbed me from the start. From the well rounded characters to the rich descriptions of lands and locations, this story played out inside my mind as I read it like I was watching a movie.
Five Irish brothers reuniting after years of separation to battle an evil that is determined to destroy not only them, but the people they love, is just one facet of this intriguing plot. Each brother has a back-story entwined, bringing twists and turns you will not expect. The bonds and relationships between these likeable characters are realistically touching, and the romantic interests that develop are well timed and beautifully portrayed. It never once felt contrived, but rather blossomed naturally as the story progressed. The fascinating magical aspects of this story were easy to follow, even for someone like me, who knows little about such things. Every moment of supernatural happenings seemed completely plausible, and added a true sense of realism to a subject I might have otherwise been confused by. For me personally, dialog can make or break a story - if it's not believable, I will lose interest quickly. There was never an instant where I felt the dialog was out of character, or out of place for the situation at hand. I was surprised by some of the reviews I read for this novel. Yes, there are some grammatical mistakes, and I did have to read a few sentences twice because I got lost in the middle of them, but in the grand scheme of things, this was far from bothersome. I would recommend this novel to anyone interested in Ireland, Wicca, the paranormal, sexy Irishman, romance, or to anyone just looking for a good read!

This review is from: Celtic Evil: A Fitzgerald Brother Novel: Roarke (The Fitzgerald Brothers) (Kindle Edition)
I was excited to read this book, it sounded like such a good story line. . And I like the fact that it continued with 4 other books about the other brothers. But once I started reading it, it was to crowded. There are way too many characters, its too fractured. I kept thinking, I thought this book was about Roarke? Then finally it started to be about him, but it just rambled on and on about him and his "friend" Jessica. And the "friend" part really irratated me, we get that they were friends before they were lovers, why keep saying "my friend, his friend, her friend?" It just got to be really irritating and boring to me, I skimmed the last third of the book, just couldnt take it anymore. If you want to read a series about magic, read Nora Roberts trilogies. Maybe she has spoiled me, this book just was not written very well. I wont be reading the other four.

A Wee Bit of Fantasy mingled with Reality,
By Aimee St. Clair (Washington) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Celtic Evil:: A Fitzgerald Brother Novel Roarke (Paperback)
These brothers are HOT! This author puts you in their collective minds and then manages to separate them out so you can get to know each one individually! This story is fast paced, with a believable wee bit of fantasy we all wish we could experience. This author describes everything so that you feel as if you are "in the moment" and living what the Fitzgerald Brothers are living. It's exciting, speeds up the heart and is hard to put down. I enjoyed immensely and would like to read more of this series.

Unique and well-written,
By Holly Christine (Pittsburgh, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Celtic Evil:: A Fitzgerald Brother Novel Roarke (Paperback)
Independent author Sierra Rose has successfully developed an intriguingly unique paranormal romance series. Celtic Evil takes place in Dublin and tells the story of Roarke, the fourth born in the Fitzgerald "circle of five."
The first in the Fitzgerald Brother series, Roarke is filled with magic, charm and enchantment. The Prologue introduces the reader to the evil Sebastian, casting a spell of destruction on the family five: "A circle of light, a circle of five. Five into one, one becomes five to unite the circle and protect the light." The novel is filled with an exceptional combination of poetic prose and thrills. Roarke's story is unique because as a witness to the murder of his parents, he has led an emotionally troubled youth. After years of keeping his secret safe, he is forced to deal with his painful memories in order to keep those closest to him safe. Roarke's story is one of redemption and love. Well-written and equally spellbinding, Sierra Rose has developed a creative series with characters to love and adore. Her research is deeply imaginative. Sierra's website features an in-depth character list, causing the reader to patiently ponder the next in the series.

This review is from: Celtic Evil: A Fitzgerald Brother Novel: Roarke (Paperback)
From the very first page, Celtic Evil is charged with excitement and action, which doesn't let up until the very end. It explores the unbreakable bond between brothers and their struggles with trust and love as they fight against an unspeakable evil. The characters are unique, easy to relate to, and authentic. It is a gripping story that is hard to put down (I read it over a span of 2 days). It deals with the classic theme of good vs. evil in a modern and appealing way. I greatly look forward to the next book of this series. Definitely a recommended read!
