It calls to the part of you that still believes in magic.,

I think that Einini has to be one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, my only regret was that it ever had to end. Culloden's Harvest is heartbreakingly beautiful and the whole CD entranced me. I listen to it in the evenings when I get home, and it never fails to soothe me no matter what ills have befallen me through the day. I recommend it not just for Celtic music fans, but for anyone that loves beautiful music. My heartfelt thanks to all the artists.

I recieved this album as a gift, and from day one I have absolulty loved it. Each song brings to mind a different place and a different time. Many of the songs are wonderful to lay down and listen to if I want to relax, and others seem to invigorate me. This is a must have for anyone who enjoys Celtic music or history, or for someone who just loves good music!

A wistful, sentimental journey that takes your breath away,
By Brianna Neal (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Celtic Legacy (Audio CD)
The work of artists from Ireland, Scotland, Brittany, Wales, Cape Breton Island, Galicia and America is featured in this primarily gentle and reflective collection featuring both accoustic and electronic instruments, as well as some vocals. Though mostly mellow, these evocative, heartfelt selections still command one's attention, leaving one yearning for more. The contributing musicians are William Coulter, Orion, The Barra MacNeils, 4 yn y Bar, Natalie MacMaster, Milladoiro, the Poozies, Maire Breatnach, Maighread Ni Dhomhmaill, William Jackson, John Whelan/Eileen Ivers, Altan, Deanta, Deiseal, Dominig Bouchaud, Cyrille Colas and Talitha MacKenzie. Especially poignant are Deanta's "Harvest of Culloden", Orion's "Douce Mousitomanie", Natalie MacMaster's "If Ever You Were Mine", and Maire Breatnach's "The Swans at Coole" and Dominig Bouchaud's "Une chanson a la mariee". If you like the music of "Celtic Legacy", you'll also enjoy a similar compilation by Narada entitled "Celtic Odyssey".

Great introduction to Celtic world that just gets better,

I first purchased this CD as an intro to Celtic music. Now, years later, it continues to be one of my favorite CDs. When I play the CD at parties or gatherings people stop talking and ask me the name of the CD. It is hard to keep it as background music, the performances are so compelling that you feel you must actively listen. Each track offers outstanding performances. A wonderful intro to the various groups and styles out there that continues to deliver enjoyment even after the tracks become familiar friends.

Enchanting, entrancing, magical collection,

I keep a copy of this CD both at home and at the office, so I am always able to listen to it. It cheers me, calms me and makes my heart sing. There isn't a song I don't like on the CD, but my favorite is "If Ever You Were Mine", a lilting instrumental where the same refrain is played consecutively by violin, then guitar, then piano, with each instrument adding subtle nuances to the tune. For vocals, try "Theid Mi Dhachaigh", a beautiful and fitting last song to a true legacy of Celtic music.

Listenable, but a mixed bag,

This collection showcases a wide range of music from the various Celtic countries. The quality of the selections varies considerably: 4 yn y Bar is a knockout (and I wish their albums were easier to find -- I've had no luck so far), the Poozies (love that name!) and Altan tracks are great, and "Culloden's Harvest" is beautifully done and heart-rending. Maire Breatnach's contribution is lovely, too, and I've subsequently bought both of her albums. The Milladoiro selection is pleasant but not typical of their style, which is lively to the point of being raucous at times. At the other end of the spectrum, "The Tree" puts me to sleep, "The Lone Harper" is only so-so, and the clarsach accompaniment on the final track is amazingly inept although the vocal is very sweet. This album is a great way to become acquainted with a variety of groups and musical styles, but it's definitely a mixed bag.

Very mellow Celtic selection,

This is my first Celtic CD. Very mellow selections (I listen at work) with a heavy string instruments (ie no or few wind instruments accompany) but its still a very solid CD to own. There's also about 3 or 4 vocal selections and even one ballad sung in English.

I've been looking everywhere for this CD and I was thrilled to find it on Amazon. I had it on cassette for years and no longer have a cassette player, so I have really missed listening to these lovely haunting tunes. It's perfect background music and very evocative of all things Celtic.

A grand, grand compilation,

This may be the best compilation CD of Celtic music I've come across so far. The majority of the cuts in this CD are as fine as the genre gets. In this superlative category, I would include the offerings by William Coulter, 4 Yb Y Bar, Natalie MacMaster, the Poozies, Máire Breatnach, Eileen ivers & John Whelan, Dominic Bouchaud and Talitha MacKenzie Each is gorgeous in its own way. The least accomplished was the Barra MacNeils offering, which seemed a trifle saccharine, Déanta's piecce which seemed a bit forced, and Maighréad Ni Dhomhnaill's piece, a little below her capabilitiy. Among the exquisite top offerings, 4 Un Y Bar is an all around winner, Natalie MacMaster makes "If Ever You Were Mine" forever hers, Máire' Breatnach's Swans at Coole hurts with its beauty, Ivers & Whelan's waltz piece is truly inspired, and Talith MacKenzie's lullaby is one of the finest I've ever heard. This CD is close to perfect, get it, get it! Narada, who puts it out, realy knew what it was doing.l
