From Booklist

Sophie was four months pregnant when she fled the compound where her son’s father was leader. At the time, she believed hiding was the only way to keep her son safe, and since that fateful night Sophie has proven that she will do anything to ensure the best for her son. After 15 years on the run, Sophie must do something she never imagined. She must return to the compound to save her son’s life. Joshua is changing in ways she never predicted. He has a supernatural power she has seen in only one other person, her son’s father, Dylan, who revealed his human to wolf shape-shifting abilities on the night Sophie ran away. Once back in the embrace of the compound, Sophie realizes Dylan’s clan is on the verge of civil war and that the fire she once felt for Dylan has never died. Jan DeLima’s debut is a romantic, suspenseful, and rich story about survival and loyalty to those who matter most. --Alison Downs

About the Author

Jan DeLima lives in central Maine with her husband of twenty years and two English bulldogs. Unlike many authors, she didn’t pen stories at an early age, but she has always been a dedicated reader. She loves stories and storytelling. It wasn’t until after her children entered school that she began writing. Raised in a military family, she lived in different countries such as Thailand and Germany, but home base has always been Maine. She brings a mixture of all her experiences to Celtic Moon, her first published novel, blending castles and Celtic lore with the wild nature of her home.

I'm not sure if this is a new trend in Paranormal Romance but more and more titles have been featuring "older" heroines and Celtic Moon falls into that category with Sophie, a 36 year old protagonist. Thibodeau doesn't just stand out because of her age, she also brings to the table something that a lot of female characters lack: experience. You can't help but admire a woman that's willing to put her fears aside in order to do right by her child; even if it means confronting the man that she's been running from for over fifteen years. My respect for her continued to increase with every new page I read because Sophie not only learned from her previous mistakes but actually took steps to ensure that she'd never be a victim again.

Two of my favourite things come together in this book: werewolves and Celtic mythology. Both elements are closely intertwined in this story and I loved how rich the lore was as a result. The author incorporates a few very unique components which helped it stand-out from other comparable titles in this genre. It's been weeks since I finished reading Celtic Moon and yet, I'm still thinking about the extremely memorable "serpent" weapon. I'd be curious to find out whether its origins stem from historical facts or are the imaginings of a very talented author. Either way, I approve! In my opinion, this first installment is only the tip of the iceberg where the Celtic Wolves are concerned!

DeLima allows readers to make up their own minds about what actually happened fifteen years ago by presenting the facts from three very different perspectives. I really enjoyed weighing each character's viewpoint and drawing my own conclusions; even though I knew what the end result was going to be, I still appreciated the process.

This is Jan DeLima's first published book and I LOVED it. It will go onto my top twenty-three list of all time favorite single books. You know the books I'm talking about. The one that you will read over and over again. All start a fantastic series, but this one book stands out. If you should care to read further here is my list of the other 23 in alphabetical order not by favorite. Ilona Andrews's "Magic Bites", Michele Bardsley's "I'm the Vampire that's why", Annette Blair's "A veiled Deception", Patricia Briggs' "Moon Called", Bailey Cates "Brownies and Broomsticks", Jan DeLimas's "Celtic Moon", J. Evanovich's "One for the money", the first Harry Potter Book (because its the first), C. Feehan's "Dark Desire" (stopped reading her books cause the new ones SUCK), Tina Gerow's "Stone Maiden", L. Hamilton's "Guilty Pleasures", C. Harris "Dead Until Dark", Thea Harrison's "Dragon Bound", Daryanda Jones' "First grave on the right", S. Laurenston's "Magnus Heat", Lora Leigh's Elizabeth's wolf(I love the whole breeds series, but this was the first that got me hooked), Marjorie M. Liu's "Tiger Eye", Seanan McGuire's "Rosemary and Rue", Kalayna Price's "Grave Witch", JD Robb's "Naked in Death", Cecy Robson's "Sealed with a curse", Nailini Singh's "Slave to Sensation" and Christine Warren's "Wolf at the Door".

Ms. DeLima, I am looking forward to reading the next book. Thank you.

Pregnant and feeling like a prisoner Sophie took the chance and ran from her husband and his pack to protect herself and her son. 15 years later she finds herself running back into her husbands grasp. Dylan has been looking for Sophie since she left. He thinks about her and his child constantly. When she calls him for help he says anything to get her back where she belongs.

Sophie does not return the same person she was when she left. I loved her "Don't f*** with me or my family attitude". She had NO issues sticking up for herself, her mom or Joshua and I loved every second of it. I also loved that she put her child before her own fears. She did not hesitate to rush back into a pack that did anything to make her feel unwelcome and pushed around. As for Dylan he is the definition of alpha male. He is stubborn, bossy, protective and beyond sexy. He did not handle things well in the past and he finds himself making the same mistakes now. He is manipulative and jerky when he could be open and loving and get a better outcome. There is a lot of trial and error on his part and he eventually discovers where his mistakes are when dealing with his wife. Sophie and Dylan have tons of chemistry and I liked how everything revealed itself and played out.

CELTIC MOON was a great start to a promising series. I enjoyed the character development and the rise of conflict that will span the series. DeLima did a great job introducing her characters while also growing them and introducing the storyline and their past. The blending of Celtic mythology and the wolves history blended well and kept me reading. I'm excited to learn more.

BTW This is Mrs Ian writing the review! :D

The first thing that struck me about Celtic Moon was the choice of protagonist. Sophie is rather unusual for the Urban Fantasy / Paranormal Romance that I have read because she is already a relatively mature woman. I say `relatively' because she is quite a bit younger than me and I do not like thinking of myself as `older' or `mature'! Not only is she in her mid to late thirties, but also she has already found the love of her life and had his child. She is well beyond the Happy Ever After that comes at the end of traditional Romance novels and living a normal life with all the associated difficult bits. In fact, the only near perfect aspect of her life is that she has such great relationships with her son and mother.

I was both intrigued and delighted by Sophie and her dilemmas. I am not a great fan of chick lit or general Romance titles, so I enjoyed reading about a woman who has to deal with more than just romantic angst and whether or not her nail varnish matches her handbag. Sophie has big, real life issues to overcome and she does it with great grit and determination. This is where Ms DeLima really sold me her book: Sophie is a strong woman throughout the whole story. I have grown to really rather hate those `strong' female protagonists that are repeatedly described as such right up until the moment that the male hero turns up to save her from all the big, bad monsters and sweep her off her feet. If a woman is strong then she will remain so even if she has a man around to help out with fighting the coming apocalypse. Buffy the Vampire Slayer has male friends and helpers, but she is always as good as, if not better than, them in a straight fight against the Big Bad.
