5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Celtic Knot piecing
Karen Combs makes easy work of piecing Celtic Knot quilts. A lovely quilt can be made using only two simple blocks with the incorporation of an array of beautiful colors. This is a perfect book for beginning and intermediate quilters.

3.0 out of 5 stars New possibilities
Caveat1: I knit; I don't quilt. Caveat2: I haven't used a purchased pattern for anything in years.

That said, this book opened up an entirely new avenue for knitting (rugs, in this case) that gives me entry into ancient designs I had not been able to figure out on my own. Two squares, both easily knit in garter stitch (and presumably, easily sewn in...

The possibilities for designing are endless with the help of this book. Karen Combs has selected wonderful illustrations showing some of the options using her clever methods. I have begun the first project from the book, and I was placing the squares down on the dining room table by memory, thinking that I knew what I was doing. Didn't I come up with a new desgin? Karen assures us that this is not wrong. Her ideas about color and "busy fabrics" are very helpful. I now have to work on my precision cutting and piecing to do it all justice!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great New Concept for Quilters!, May 20, 2007

Karen Combs has a winner with Celtic Pieced Illusions. The designs are beautiful and it's very surprising to find you can make them with only two or three different blocks. It's all in the way they are arranged.

Karen even has instructions in the back of the book for teaching one of the designs...a lesson plan for quilt teachers. Great idea that I wish would show up in more books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Celtic piecing simplified, April 18, 2007
This review is from: Celtic Pieced Illusions (Paperback)
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The illustrations of Ireland dotted throughout the book are delightful, the quilting instructions clear and the possiblilities are endless. There is also a guide for quilting teachers at the end of the book. Karens ideas allow the quilter to take two different blocks and create unique quilts every time. Easy enough for a beginer and interesting enough to keep the experienced quilter busy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent quilt book for the experienced and novice, May 21, 2008
This review is from: Celtic Pieced Illusions (Paperback)
I am thrilled with this book. I have been quilting a very long time, but because I already have a busy schedule, I don't have hours to try to figure patterns out. This book is perfect. A novice quilter could easily use the two color patterns and each pattern has a wide variety of ways to lay out the quilt for different looks. But, if you are looking for more challenge, the multi-colored quilt and how those colors can all work into the Celtic knots throughout your quilt would provide great enjoyment! A great purchase at a good price!!

This book has some wonderful techniques to make stunning quilts. While the designs are labeled as beginner/intermediate/advanced my personal opinion is that refers to those who have used or would like to use the technique. Not whether one has quilted before. However, that is just a piece of information and should not be a deterrent to using the book. The technique is ingenious and the results stunning. I love it and highly recommend to those who would like to create a (or lots more) celtic appearing quilt. The results are gorgeous.

This book was everything I hoped it would be and then some. The book was in great condition. I couldn't wait to get started. There are practice pages that really help take the worry out of making what looks complicated into an " I can do this" project! I think the practice pages were worth the cost of the book. And let met tell you, buying a book on Amazon.com, used? A great idea. I was able to spend the money I saved on fabric to make the quilt block. A great deal!

Fantastic book! Such a simple concept for a beginner to expert quilter. I bought this for the "lending library" in my fabric shop after a customer showed me a copy and it's been an instant hit.
