Fantastic CD!,

John Whelan has made a beautiful cd filled with tunes that seem to take you back to long ago Ireland. I use this cd to relax and meditate. This was put together with finesse and love. I love it!

Whelan does it again,

I've been a fan of Celtic music for a long time, and this CD is one of the better examples I've heard. "Misty-eyed Morning" is a good description. It brings feelings of morning dew, mist over the forest and the sounds of nature outside in that forest. I can almost imagine waking up to this music while out in the English countryside. Before my love of Celtic music started, I could never imagine ever liking an instrument like the accordion. I had no idea that an instrument that I had always heard in music like the polka could actually sound so haunting and pleasurable. Whelan is a master, though, bringing out every nuance of mood imaginable. This was the first Whelan CD I ever picked up (I tried it on a whim without even hearing it), and I am so glad I did.

Tugs at the heart,

I have no idea how this CD got into my collection, but it's become one of my favorites. The song that hooked me in was the yearning melody of "Longing for Home, Longing for Here".
Now I listen to this whenever I want some comfort. It's not traditional-sounding Irish music. There's a bit of Cajun ("Dancing to a Lot of Time") and sly tango (the delightful "Last Dance") and a bit of New Age ("Longing for Home"). But if you think you'll never like the accordion, check out one or two tracks on this CD. This is a keeper.
