Celtic Steel Series, Book 2

Patrick MacCahan just became the new Laird of the O'Malley clan. His new position is met with many obstacles; including a tempestuous new wife, a two-decade long war with a neighboring village, a missing foster child and a pagan witch who overpowers the clan at every turn.

Parkin MacCahan's life just got a lot more exciting. His older brother Patrick has married the eldest daughter of the O'Malley clan. His father is building a shipping empire off the coast of Northern Ireland. Parkin must oversee the operations and coordinate efforts between the O'Malleys and the MacCahans.

In order to dock at O'Malley port, Parkin and his men must sail past the legendary Island of Women. Will Parkin be able to withstand the temptation to trespass the legendary shore? Or will he be invited?

Kyra O'Connell has resided in O'Malley territory all of her life. As the niece of the late Laird Dallin O'Malley, and daughter of the clan's chieftan, she has been part of the inner circle for as long as she can remember. When a spy is found among the villagers, Kyra is asked to take up residence on the Island of Women and to infiltrate their ranks as a spy herself.

1.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly disjointed August 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I usually enjoy novels set in this time period. This one is incredibly disappointing. It is incredibly disjointed, reads like several pages have been ripped out of each chapter...little flow from one scene to the next. The worst two (by way of example) are the two cave scenes. Young Braeden is deciphering cave drawings....quite a bit of descriptive language, okay.

And then it ends. NO TIE IN to the story line at all, past present or future.

Ditto for the cave markings left by Patrick for his wife "so that she knows she is to wait there" and the ones "from the past" which he deciphers when he meets up with her.

And then the book ends, literally.

Hard to tell if it's just bad writing, incoherent writing, or incoherent editing. Don't spend the money, even if it's free.

1.0 out of 5 stars Did the author just copy/paste from the first book? September 7, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I read a lot of books. I review a lot of books. But this is the first time I felt like the author had just copied and pasted most of the second book from the first one. Usually with the second book some of the story from the first book is given but I have never read one that in some cases was line by line from its previous. Strangely I kept reading to see if it was just a mistake but no, it carries throughout the novel. I would have thought it couldn't get worse but it could. Apparently there were pages missing from my Kindle copy or the author just dropped people in and out of scenes and the action without it being part of the whole.

I am left wondering, did the author just insert everything she edited out of the first novel that didn't work into the second novel expecting it would work now?

I rarely review a book I don't want to recommend but in this case I felt that it was important for the customer to know what they are getting if they should be tempted to purchase this, in my opinion, worthless junk.

Delaney Rhodes is a new favorite author of mine! I enjoy paranormal romance, but historical novels not as much. Ms. Rhodes is so talented creating not only interesting characters, she has created a beautiful, dangerous, and wonderful world around them. Her descriptions of scenery come to life before my eyes as I read, her characters became people that I cared about. The story started with a bang and never slowed down, drawing so many different fantasy creatures together into a believable story. I cheered when the evil characters were vanquished, but I was holding my breath many times before the ending. The first few pages I found myself slowing my reading just to enjoy the brogue in the dialogue, which normally bothers me. But in this novel I found that the language and how realistic Ms. Rhodes used it added much to the beauty of the story. I couldn't put the kindle down easily, I just had to keep going. I was so pleased to note that additional books in the series are planned, I wouldn't want to stop here. I highly recommend this series. Just enough heat and spice, intrigue, fantasy, romance, and mischief to appeal to just about anyone. There is nothing bland or slow about it. I can't wait for book 3 to come out in June!!

3.0 out of 5 stars OK For A Series Book October 31, 2012
By skhoov
Format:Kindle Edition
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my review. I didn't read book one (I didn't notice right away that it was the second in a series, or I wouldn't have read it). I'm not usually one for series or romance novels, but it was free. Not having read book one didn't seem to make any difference overall. I enjoyed the language (use of brogue), and the general idea of the book. It seems to just abruptly end (obviously so there can be more books in the series), and that was a bit disappointing to me as I don't want to go buy more books just to get to an ending (the reason I hate series books).

1.0 out of 5 stars DISAPPOINTING REHASH OF BOOK 1 August 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I noticed that 19 readers gave this one 5 stars. I can only assume they didn't read book one or they are delusional. Because this one is about 70% a verbatim cut and paste of book 1.

That is why I dislike Cliffhangers. They are almost always a disappointment to those who read the 1st book. The author feels compelled to bring the new readers up to speed as to what occurred in book 1. Than either does quick summerizations of those situations, or the second and worst choice, in my opinion,is the author cuts and pastes large chunks of the previous story. Then tries to chink in more information to form a new story. Bad move. Makes me feel cheated and I distrust the author. The next time I see her stories listed I don't buy it.

In this case Ms. Rhodes should have ditched book 2 and taken the 30% of new materials and put them into book 1. While she wouldn't have had the sales from book 2 she would have come off as being an author not looking to rip off her readers.

I am very disappointed in this book. I really do feel like a fool for getting suckered into reading it. I didn't buy it, Thank God, it was freebie.

My advise don't waste your time. Be satisfied with book 1 and skip book 2 you won't miss hardly anything.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing February 23, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I read the first book in the series and was really looking forward to reading the next one Book 2 BUT i read 70% of book 2 and it just rewiewed what happened in book 1. So disappointing i was not going to bother with anymore books in the series but i just started book 3 in the series and so far so good, not sure what the reasoning for recaping book 1 70% into book 2. Please don't do that anymore. An Avid reader Sandi
