Book Description

Celtic Skies
Celtic Steel, Book 3

Flynn Montgomery has just taken a new commission as the chieftan of O'Malley clan troops in Western Ireland. His cousin, Patrick MacCahan-O'Malley, is the Lord of the O'Malley clan; and they are expanding their shipping enterprise across the seas. Flynn is needed in O'Malley territory to lead the clan's defense and military operations.

O'Malley lands are far from his home in the Shiant Islands of Scotland. A highlander by descent, Flynn is well respected among his people, but unknown to the Irish clan he is bid to serve. Will the O'Malley clan grow to accept him as one their own?

Is someone stealing the MacCahan and O'Malley clan ships? The O'Malley Lord, his brother Payton, and Ruarc O'Connell, the former chieftan, must investigate the strange disappearance of three vessels and ensure the clan's safety during their absence. Are there pirates on the sea, or could this be the work of a much darker force?

Dervilla O'Malley has watched as her sister and friends have found love. Are the goddesses ignoring her? Is she destined to remain alone as most of the women of O'Malley territory; or will her knowledge of clan maps and nautical charts introduce her to a life she never imagined?

CELTIC SKIES

AWARDED: #27 Best Book of August, 2012, GoodReads
"No need to read the first two books in order - this one is a stand alone favorite of mine."

5 STARS "Right off the bat it had me captured, I couldn't put it down and read for hours into the night! There was a lot more going on this time but it made me cry in some parts and some I just "had my hand to my mouth" in aw through the whole thing. As always with the last two it left me in wanting more - so much that I am looking forward to October when the next part is out." - Krystina

5 STARS "Of the first 3 books in the Celtic Steel series this is my favorite. I really enjoyed the first two but this one just caught my attention and wouldn't let me stop until I finished it." - Stacey

5.0 out of 5 stars Hooked from the first page August 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I loved this book. I'm not a huge reader of romances, but when I pick one up I expect it to grab me and not let go. The story had my attention from the beginning and it didn't let up until the very end. The very realistic progression of the romance along with a vivid setting went a long way in keeping me entertained and I appreciate it when an author takes the time to really set up and develop the romance properly.

Now that I've read this one I need to go back and pick up the first two in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of the Celtic Steel series September 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Unlike other series I have read, this one keeps getting better and better. Celtic Skies is a wonderful read--not just compared to the first two books but a wonderful read in and of itself. It is truly a page-turner. Rhodes has an amazing knack at creating some very stunning imagery on top of writing a great tale. The main characters, Flynn and Dervilla, are very well developed and the story line is filled with seemingly unending twists throughout. Celtic Skies is a very entertaining book in a very intriguing series.

1.0 out of 5 stars Baffling. September 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is the first review that I've written for this site, but this book fell so incredibly short of my expectations set by all the five star reviews that I felt compelled to warn people who get this book and expect to read a story like the one summarized in the book description. SPOILERS to follow.

Firstly, this is supposed to be a romance between Flynn and Dervilla. I haven't finished the book yet, I don't know if I can, but I'm 75% of the way through the book and these two characters haven't even met yet! The first 16 chapters, SIXTEEN, focus primarily on a character from a previous book giving birth. Seriously? And then, not only is the heroine barely mentioned up until this point, we are introduced to a romance between two different characters. Who is this book supposed to be about? I thought it was about Flynn adjusting to his new role in unfamiliar territory and Dervilla helping him with her awesome nautical skills. Why are we reading about every other character in this series and not the two "main" characters? Secondly, I have no idea what the plot is. Why? Because the Scottish and Irish accents phonetically written into the dialogue are so distracting and difficult to read that it was pretty much impossible to follow the story. More time should be put into fleshing out chatacters and providing a solid and interesting plot, and less time spent providing "authenticity" to the readers with ridiculous dialogue.

If you're looking for a story like the one described in the description, don't get this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Everyone needs some romance in their life October 15, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Over the weekend I read Celtic Skies, which is Book 3 in the Celtic Steel Series. This is a historical romance that is filled with a sense of adventure that is captivating from the very beginning. I would not say that this is a romance novel in the traditional sense but the romance is there. The characters are brilliantly defined and it's almost as if the author is painting a picture with her words. Now it looks like I'm going to have to go back and read the first two. :)

2.0 out of 5 stars Just didn't connect February 2, 2013

So, this has pretty good reviews, and I'm not really quite sure. There were a lot of minor plots within the book that were intriguing. I also liked how the author created the chemistry between each of the couples. However, the main story is completely lost in the book, and it ends very abruptly, I wound up going back to figure out if I somehow lost part of the book on my Kindle. The other concern I had was there were so many characters at the beginning of the book, completely unrelated to the main story, that I found it hard to keep track of who everyone was.
