5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Deck
This is a great deck, I have used it for the last six months and was delighted to find it so easy to use. The images on the cards are positive and I love the stories associated with the cards. I never realised that Celtic Mythology was so fascinating and could be used along side the Tarot is such a constructive way. A Great Buy!!

3.0 out of 5 stars A very nice deck
I have used this deck for about a year now, and like it quite a bit. For one thing, while the card meanings are approximate Rider-Waite, many of the images are quite different, but still very evocative. For example, the RW 9 cups shows a fat man sitting in front of 9 cups. This deck shows a maiden sitting by a lovely rocky pool, with a spring trickling into it, and 9...

3.0 out of 5 stars A very nice deck, December 2, 2004
This review is from: The Celtic Tarot (Hardcover)
I have used this deck for about a year now, and like it quite a bit. For one thing, while the card meanings are approximate Rider-Waite, many of the images are quite different, but still very evocative. For example, the RW 9 cups shows a fat man sitting in front of 9 cups. This deck shows a maiden sitting by a lovely rocky pool, with a spring trickling into it, and 9 cups submerged in the water. Lovely image, and very in tune with the 'wishing well' aspect of this card.
The book has very good relationship meanings for all the cards, making it very easy to read. And since relationships are the focus of the majority of my readings, this feature is really useful. The celtic legends in the book are very cool. I have lots of Tarot books and this is one of the ones I use the most. I don't think the art is bad--it's soft and misty, like watercolors. All in all, a very nice deck.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Oz Fan, July 26, 2002

I just would like to say how much I have enjoyed THE CELTIC TAROT book and deck. The style of book was easy to follow especially for someone just learning and developing an interest in TAROT. I'm sure any reader with an understanding of tarot would greatly appreciate this style of book. Julian de Burgh's interruption of his deck is a story within itself. Each card is explained in detail, I especially enjoyed the history of each card following its Celtic beliefs. Even for a beginner I could see the meaning unfold in each card. The details, size and colour of the deck are a pleasure to use. I recently was given a copy of Julian de Burgh's second book THE TAROT OF THE CELTIC HEART available from Amazon UK, go check it out and add it to your collection, it's another wonderful read!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Celtic Tarot - FINALLY shipped, June 28, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Celtic Tarot (Hardcover)
The pictures were not everything I expected at first glance, but as I got into reading further, I realized that the use of color and heavy lines adds something none of my other decks have. The book is concise. I like how the book seperates each divination meaning into categories. It's a simple and interesting deck.

Seemingly harder to find these days this deck is a real gem. I love the soft water colors and the book that comes with the set is very well written. If you want a true Irish deck this is it!

This is a fantasic deck the water color art and the back design are beautiful and easy to read so it's excellent deck for beginers and of course experts as well. The companion book that comes with it is very well written and informative. My one minor complaint would be the uninspiring death card not well done at all.So in closeing this short review if you are looking for a celtic themed deck this one is a superb choice and i highly recomend adding this to your collection.

I've been circling through three new decks I've purchased in the last four months, and though deBurgh's set is the one I've used the least, it is not by any means because I like it the least. Considering some of the time constraints I have, what keeps me from this deck is the danger of getting lost in the stories! To the Celtic Pagan, or just plain Celtophile, this set is a treasure trove, and he's done a marvelous job of twining the legends around the Tarot archtypes, surprising me with the breadth of his knowledge of the legends. On an instinctive level, for me there is something warm and welcoming about this deck. When I first got it I expected I might keep it as a part of my Celtic library more than a working Tarot, but as I come to spend more time with it, I feel I will be able to use this deck very well as a reading deck too.

Some reviewers have complained of the quality of the art, and while it has a primitive quality to it, I see that as working well with the overall conception of the deck. In summation, I feel this is an unusual and unique take on the Tarot, and a real original in the Celtic Tarot group. For those who like lush artwork, the Gilded Tarot might be a better choice, and for Wiccan/Pagans who want drop dead gorgeous art, check out the Buckland Romani or the Druidcraft, or the Sacred Circle (and I'm probably leaving out dozens!) But, all those accounted for, this little deck still has it's own quiet magic and a loving intention that make me treasure it very much

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Tarot Deck, March 29, 2001

This is a very nice deck to use, and the stories in the book really help give you a clear idea of what the cards mean. Julian's concept and understanding of the Tarot has helped me a great deal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely Deck, September 9, 2011

The Celtic Tarot is a beautiful deck. I have several decks and this is one of my favorites. I have uploaded some images of the cards for you to view. The back of the cards are soft yellow with pastel designs. I selected the brighter cards to upload because I thought they would scan better. The deck has a nice blend of both soft and bold colors, which I find very pleasing.

Some of the images follow Rider/Waite type images, others are quite unique. Even though some of the images are non-traditional,I still perceive the same feelings from them that I get from the same card in a Rider/Waite type deck.

The set comes with a nice companion book, which gives card definitions, and other information on reading tarot cards.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful and simple to use Tarot Deck and Book, June 28, 2000
This review is from: The Celtic Tarot (Hardcover)
I recently purchased The Celtic Tarot here in Sydney, and I was more than pleasantly surprised. This is a beautiful deck and book, not only does Julian give you clear and simple guidance in how to learn and use the Tarot, but he also gives you a tale from Celtic Mythology associated with each card, which certainly gives you greater insight into the meaning of the cards. The cards Illustrated by Mary Guinan, are exceptional and really beautiful, it is easy to grasp the passion and intensity of each of the cards. I loved Julian's step by step system and easy to learn method, which is something that most of the author's of other Tarot decks fail to give. A great buy equally for the experienced or beginner.
