Music the way it ought to be,

I was at both nights of taping in Toronto. These guys deliver every time. They love what they do and they do it well. Individually, they are very, very good, but when they harmonize, they knock your socks off. Ryan IS "Bad Bad LeRoy Brown". "Hallelujah" is wonderful with Ryan, Keith and Neil. Damian is adorable "Watching All The Girls Go By", in creamy white, looking like he belongs in an F. Scott Fitzgerald novel. Paul owns "You Raise Me Up" and "Doo Whacka Doo." George, the lone Scot, among the Irish singers rocked the house with "500 Miles" And of course Keith doing a surfing medley on his red guitar, was so appropriate for the "Surfer Dude". I had really stopped paying attention to music until this group of young men were showcased in "Celtic Thunder the Show." The musical director Phil Coulter has done an excellent job of selecting the right music for each young man's beautiful interpretation of proven covers and new material written by
Mr. Coulter himself. "It's Entertainment" will be a wonderful addition to your musical library.

I saw this amazing show when it was filmed for the DVD! Do yourself a favor and buy (preorder) it now! These incredibly talented singers will knock your socks off! My personal favorites are "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" (an ensemble piece) Hallelujah (Keith Harkin, Ryan Kelly, and Neil Bryne) and "The Surfer Medley" (Keith Harkin.)
Reserve your copy now!!! It's Entertainment!

Not "My" Celtic Thunder,
By Carrie Talarsky (Gainesville, Mo United States) - See all my reviews

Let me first say that I am a true Celtic Thunder fan. I have the first three CD's before this one, the xmas CD done by Paul, and I have gone to two of the live concerts. I would rate all of these 5 stars. Then we come to "it's Entertainment". I can understand the group wanting to try new things, but whoever picked out much of this music did not do right by them this time. This wonderful group of men deserve better. There are a couple of really nice pieces, but much of this CD to me at least, sounds like they are trying to sound like "polyester lounge lizards", and music like that you can get anywhere. Please go back to sounding like the wonderful Celtic group that you stand out as.

I have been a huge fan of Celtic Thunder since the beginning and I found this DVD painful to watch. It is neither Celtic nor "thunderous". The only song I truely enjoyed was "Ireland". The set was poorly conceived and the addition of the male dancers with Ryan was like something from a high school musical review. That said, I think the most demeaning performance was Paul (with the voice of an angel) singing Do-wacka-do. I don't hold CT responsible for this fiasco. I think they need to loose Sharon Browne and find a producer that wants them to be Celtic, not some Lawrence Welk review.

Oh, how long I waited for this DVD/CD! I got it now and it`s a huge dissapointment! I actually can`t still believe it - there is nothing celtic left! Just covers of old songs and some strange choreography.
For you who still are thinking should I buy this DVD or not - if you liked CT first DVD "The Show" because of their celtic music - you better don`t buy this one! What`s celtic in this one - "Ireland`s call" and one song played by the band. "Hallelujah" performed by Keith, Ryan and Neil is beautyful too. But all the new songs - find some nostalgic radio station and you can hear this kind of music all day long. I don`t know what Sharon thought putting together show like this, but I hope, that this DVD will be the only one in this "style"! I hope CT will find their celtic hearts and souls again! These lads have incredible voices and great characters, it`s actually criminal to make them sound and look like every others. You have Phil Coulter on your team - it can`t be hard to find gorgeous original music to perform! This one is "JUST Entertainment". I looked it twice hoping to find something great. I actually found - George is himself and great as always :) I don`t know why in the beginning of the DVD Neil is introduced before George? I`m really sad to write this review, but I think that honest oppinion from 110% CT fan can be useful for future shows to be. Before this "entertainment" I bought every CD and DVD from CT - never thought twice! Now I`ll be really careful and thinking before ordering new CD/DVD. I`ll keep my fingers crossed, that new show from CT will be again full of beautyful celtic music! Don`t lose that what makes Celtic Thunder special among all the other groups! PS: this DVD plays really good in Estonia too (region 2), this means that it isn`t just for region 1 - USA and Canada. Quality is ok too.

I too was at the taping and was just blown away at the professionalism and song choices. When you find yourself rocking in your seat along with the performers, then you know you got a gem and at such a bargain price! These gUys have what it takes and let me tell you they deliver pure ENTERTAINMENT!

Beware False Advertising,
By Tina (Chicago) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Celtic Thunder: It's Entertainment! (DVD)
This product is listed on Amazon as having a 124 minute run time. That is not really true. The actual "concert" is less than an hour. I've seen encores longer than that. This is clearly not a complete concert. The remainder of the DVD consists of interviews and other non-musical footage.
Even the concert footage is so badly edited that much of the camera time is wasted on the audience, extras, and dancers. Indeed one song is done by some woman who is not even one of the Celtic Thunder singers. Wasting much of the already short concert. Showing the audience applauding between songs is fine, but why are we watching the audience when there is a performer on stage? Or why are we watching some unknown dancer hop around the stage like a beheaded chicken, rather than the singer we paid to see? I guess we should be lucky we don't have a 10 minute closeup of the park bench. If you buy this DVD thinking that you are going to get 124 minutes of entertainment from the 5 Celtic Thunder performers, think again. This DVD is very poorly put produced, and does nothing to showcase the very real talent that the 5 guys of Celtic Thunder possess.

Worst Celtic Thunder show I've seen,
This review is from: Celtic Thunder: It's Entertainment! (DVD)
I love the Celtic Thunder group and all work done by Phil Coulter and Sharon Browne but this show on DVD is terrible not at all like the last two shows which were great. Are we at the point where we are taking the public for granted. Entire show was of poor quality. I hope future shows are better. I couldn't wait for this release since the past two shows were great. We need to see the guys singing better quality material than on this show. Also where are the Irish songs on this DVD?

I am and have been an enthusiastic supporter of Celtic Thunder since seeing them on PBS the first time. Although this DVD has some incredible harmonies and solos, I was a little disappointed at some of the song selections. The addition of Neil was delightful and he has a wonderful voice. Hallelujah is a fabulous rendition by Keith, Neil and Ryan. I was not happy at the addition of a harsh female singer (would have much prefered another tune by the boys) and did not think she was a "match" for the angelic Keith. No matter, I will still watch this many times (I will just fast forward through the Jesse James thing). I adore the Celtic Thunder guys and love to hear them and watch them sing.

Great Performance, Bad Management,

5-stars to the lads. 1-star to the Celtic Thunder management. Average = 2.5-stars.
The Lads put on a Fantastic performance (as usual). There are some truly amazing performances in this show. The acappella pieces have become my favorite. These guys harmonize soooo well together. The down side is that this DVD is very poorly edited. The audio is amateur quality at best, and often out of sync with the video. Additionally, the "show" portion of the DVD is VERY short. Part of the additional material at the end of the DVD, includes clips of songs and scenes which are not included in the show. I can only assume that these scenes were edited out in preparation for a "second-half" to be released in the future. If so, that's pretty cheap, and very disrespectful to the fans. A number of 5-star reviews state that they were at the taping of the show, yet none of them address the fact that large portions of the show are inexplicably missing from the DVD. That certainly makes me question the accuracy of the review. I wish these very talented lads could find some equally talented management. |
