3.0 out of 5 stars Good, though it's all been done before
I'll give it 3 stars for "good", not average or poor, but not great or increadible either. I noticed the sticker on this cd that compared it to Enigma and Deep Forest. Granted, it seems everyone is comparing themselves to Enigma these days in hopes of selling their cd but this album should appeal to many of their fans anyway whom also happen to like Celtic...

If you're not looking for "Traditional" Irish jigs, reels, lyrics, ballads or tunes, but rather a tightly put together selection of songs with a modern, mystic, Celtic "flavor" and a dream-like quality, with a nice heavy bass beat...then this is a CD for you!

Some reviewers here have mentioned the similar sound of each song and have seen that as a 'negative'. Frankly, with the word "trance" in the title, that's a tip off (to me at least) that the whole CD is *meant* to flow seamlessly from one song into the next, with no jarring stops and starts, or drastic mood changes.

Nowhere on this CD, or in its blurbs, do they claim to be selling us "traditional" Irish tunes or folksongs. I don't think it's fair to pan the CD, just because it's not traditional.

5.0 out of 5 stars The "creme de la creme" of Celtic music, August 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Celtic Trance (Audio CD)
I recently purchased a copy of Celtic Trance in Ireland. The album is absolutely "stunning" in musical imagery and magical sounds. Its title "Celtic Trance" is a very accurate description. It is like a blend of Clannad and Enigma. Here in Ireland, Celtic music abounds but this album is the "Creme de la creme" PS I found this site while searching for more products by Dagda.

Granted, it seems everyone is comparing themselves to Enigma these days in hopes of selling their cd but this album should appeal to many of their fans anyway whom also happen to like Celtic music, simply because of it's style.

Overall, "Celtic Trance" has a dreamy and mystical sound *but* every song sounds almost the same on this album and and I have trouble distinguishing one track from the next.

Neverless, give this cd a listen, buy it if you like Celtic music, and if you do, also check out albums by Stone Edge and Emer Kenny which in my opinion are both a little better than this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enigma goes to Ireland!, November 16, 2000
This review is from: Celtic Trance (Audio CD)
I love this CD! This is some of the most relaxing music I've found in quite a while. I work at home a lot late a night, and this CD never fails to put me in a more receptive mood. If you like Enigma, you'll definitely love this album. The beats are often similar to Enigma, but the Irish influence is of course unmistakeable. If you just want to kick back, have a glass of wine, and unwind after a crazy day, this is the music for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice music, but individual songs lack uniqueness, December 27, 1999

This album has engaging music, combining celtic melodies with tribal drums. However, the individual songs on the album are very similar in structure and tone to one another. Because of this, a certain repetitiveness sets in as you listen. The song "The Gifted People", is an exception however, and in my opinion is by far the best song on the album. This album should be purchased by anyone who enjoys the combination of drums and celtic melodies, but beware of it's tiresome uniformity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect harmony between Celtic music and new age hip hop, July 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Celtic Trance (Audio CD)
This CD was a wonderful compilation of the new works of hip hop and new age style out there, as well as incorporating traditional Celtic music and rhythm. I like it because it relates to me as the younger generation and is also great for anyone who is interested in a different spinoff from traditional Celtic music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Celtic Trance, January 8, 2000

Sometimes one just gets very lucky in picking up an unknown CD. If you like new age music and other artists like Enya and Enigma reward yourself with this one. It makes those long drives enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best new-age music since Delerium's Karma, November 17, 2002
This review is from: Celtic Trance (Audio CD)
Dagda morph through one track to the next with their extravagent strings of celtic rythms. They combine flutes, windpipes and cathar music with modern beats and use fine female vocals to back their magic up. The cd starts with an eerie introduction which swithces to The Primal Gods and Celtic Trance, my favorite songs on the CD. They also use great support instruments like harps, guitars and pianos, and have a fantasy quality to their music which makes each track special and varied even though they are connected. I always enjoy it in the car or at home, or even when insomnia hits bad I just keep listening to this CD and it has a relaxing quality to it like no other new-age music. Genereally, Dagda hit their best (hopefully not their plateu) in this record, and they have an outstanding future in the new age genre.

I bought this CD without ever having heard of the group Dagda. I put the disc in my player and was totally enraptured from the first note! To fully experience it, I recommend headphones.

Can't wait to see what else this group does!
