new celtic woman cd,
By A Customer
This review is from: Celtic Woman (Audio CD)
I was disappointed with this cd only because I had thought the music would be in a more traditional celtic style. Although the musical and recording quality is quite fine, most of these sections are in a pop/rock or folk sound. The selections that are more traditional celtic sound include only those by McKennitt and Ni Dhomhnaill. If you're looking for a contemporary vocal female sound in general, you will probably like this recording but the composers could be from a number of Western countries besides those of Celtic origin.

An Awesome Combination of Celtic & Folk Music,
By Katie "book worm" (PA , USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Celtic Woman (Audio CD)
I received this CD for Christmas this year, and I love it!
At first I had expected it to be much like my other "Celtic Woman" CD (the one with the blue cover and the picture of the red-haired woman) - which I also love. However, this one is different... While listening I was trying to figure out what was so different between the two, as the songs on both tell a story, and you can definitely hear the celtic-type voices - what I realized was that many of the songs on this CD could be categorized as "folk" music, whereas on the other CD, it was clearly celtic... I hope that makes sense (smile)... So, if you love "folk" & "celtic" type music, you can't go wrong with this CD. I know I'll be listening to it for many years to come!

Contemporary Celtic folk jewels,
By
This review is from: Celtic Woman (Audio CD)
I agree with the other reviewer who said this isn't so much traditional Celtic music as contemporary Celtic folk. I like this kind of music and to me this CD is studded with jewels. I have listened to it many times over many months, and "haunting beauty" is the term I would apply to many of the songs. The selections are varied, and display the wealth of styles available outside of strictly traditional Celtic music today. Rather than go into many of the songs, I'll cite "Annie Moore" as a lavishly beautiful and inspiring song, and restrain myself from praising others. I am totally delighted to have bought this album, and would not want my music collection to be without it.

Celtic Soul Emerging From Women Voices!,
By
This review is from: Celtic Woman (Audio CD)
While I was attending a course in England in 1996 I spent a weekend at Wales and was captivated by Celtic rhythms, music and poetry.
Still being at the UK I bought some CDs just to get more acquainted with this gorgeous music. Two of them remains as my favorite ones "Celtic Woman" and "Celtic Moods", both of them gives the listeners a general picture of what's up. "Celtic Woman" (1996) should not be confounded the DVD & CDs of the same name that were released later in the USA. Here we have seven exceptional interpreters which contribute with one or two songs each from their previous albums. Canadian singer Loreena McKennitt gives the beautiful & sad ballad "Annachie Gordon" with her characteristic poignant and deep voice. Irish singer Rita Connolly sings "Venezuela" and "Ripples in the Rockpools". This last one is just extraordinary. It is an irate piece of music from a legendary pirate queen menacing to leave her husband. The repetition of three verses gives the composition a very special cadence. Very young (at that moment) and blond Marian Bradfield gives her best with the romantic & enticing ballad "Tonight is Just for Us". Dubliner Melanie O'Reilly performs "Annie Moore" dedicated to the first immigrant to arrive to Ellis Island NY. Last but not least "Trees" from Fiona Joyce is an unforgettable mystic song. Enjoy this introductory album to the joys of Celtic music! Reviewed by Max Yofre.

Celtic Woman, Vol. 1,

This review is from: Celtic Woman (Audio CD)
This CD was a bit of a disappointment. I thought it was going to be the same performers and same type of music as the "Celtic Woman" CD that is like the current Live Broadcast playing on Public Telelvision. It isn't. I didn't recognize most of the songs or the artists.

Nothing of what I believed it to be. Do not recommend if you are looking for music similar to the Celtic Woman Video.

Fabulous traditional Irish songs by young women who have the voices of angels and the instrumental talents which make this a treasure.
My girlfriend and I love the Celtic Woman CD!

This is a great album for anyone who enjoys classic and new Irish music. These women are talented with a wide vocal range. The concert orchestra is an added plus. Emotions while listening run from toe-tapping to a tear or two to singing along with some of the common songs. Great listening!

Few selections good. If you love Loreena McKennitt keep buying her work, skip this cd and buy vol.2 of this title. Vol. 1 will not keep your ear interested for long. |
