Book Description

May 12, 2009
FBI Special Agent Aloysius Pendergast - recently returned to New York - and Lieutenant Vincent D'Agosta find themselves investigating the murder of a friend when reporter William Smithback and his wife Nora are brutally attacked in their apartment. The assailant is identified by eyewitnesses as their strange, sinister neighbour - a man who, by all accounts, died ten days earlier. Shunning the official inquiry, Pendergast and D'Agosta undertake their own private - and unorthodox - quest for the truth. Their journey takes them deep into the dark and mysterious underbelly of Manhattan, to a secretive, reclusive cult of Obeah and voodoo which no outsiders have ever survived...

5.0 out of 5 stars Wish these guys would write faster., September 9, 2009

I tried to make this book last longer than it did, but it ended too quickly as all of the Preston-Child books do. This is an addictive read, though my favorite Preston-Child remains Wheel of Darkness, I even named my dog Gsalrig Chongg. I wish these guys could write faster.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deliciously Thrilling!, June 12, 2009
This review is from: Cemetery Dance (Audio CD)
Cemetery Dance by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child is a top of the notch thriller that takes you on a roller coaster ride of excitement from beginning to end. As I listened to each CD I could not wait for the next and now that I am done I long to see what other delicious reads I can find by these authors as they are new to me but not for much longer.

A community is terrorized by Zombies with the intent on the killing of journalists. As each person is killed they become the killer. All this seems to stem from one particular cult of worshippers that practice the art of Voodoo, or is it an even more ancient art more dangerous than the simple hoodoo, Voodoo that has drifted from the cultures of peoples from New Orleans.

The story is nicely detailed, action packed and sit on the edge of your chair intense. The scenes are vivid to the point that you can actually see in your mind exactly what the authors are describing down to the tiniest pinpoint of detail. The elements of magic, culture and crime spin this tale into a macabre dance of excitement and fear.

At first I was not sure if I would like the reader but as I went along I found he added the extra umph to the tale that I might have lost if I had been reading it from the book. An umph that gave me that extra bit of excitement and intensity that you would normally get when watching an intense movie and see the visual affects instead of imagining them.

Lastly, the ending was not at all what I excepted but was even more than I had hoped for. It is so twisted that you would never even be able to begin to see it coming from any point in the story. It was the Fiest De La Resistance of a novel worthy of many awards.
