5.0 out of 5 stars Forget the Name, It's a SWEET Burner!
I actually purchased my Cendyne 16x10x40 drive from somewhere else, but I thought a review here would be helpful to others. . .

First of all, don't be fooled by the name brand. Most (if not all) Cendyne products are "rebadged" from other manufacturers. In my case, a Lite-On LTR-16101B with Burn-Proof. It amazes me how Cendyne does not even put "Burn Proof" or...

1.0 out of 5 stars Actually, less than one star
I purchased one of these in March. It quit operating in mid-July. I have been trying unsuccessfully since then to obtain technical support and warranty replacement. When I call tech support (long distance, you pay) I get put on hold from 10 to 20 minutes to only end up being transferred to voice mail. When they return my call it is the next day while I'm gone. I am very...

It amazes me how Cendyne does not even put "Burn Proof" or anything similar on the box. Ok, I'll stop complaining. Models sold in Summer 2001 were Teac units. That said, you have a pretty good chance of getting a Lite-On.

So who is Lite-On? They are a large OEM manufacturer from Taiwan, and they make Buslink, Cendyne, and other manufacturer's CD Burners, DVD-ROMS, and more.

So on to the unit. Installation was a breeze. Just make sure you have an open 5.25" bay, a free IDE port, and a power connector. The unit is set as "slave" defaulted, b/c most people have another CD drive as master. My unit included Nero Burning ROM, which is superior to EZ CD Creator IMHO.

After installing the unit and software, MAKE SURE TO ENABLE DMA in the system control panel under "Devices". My first attempt to burn a 70 min CD took over 10mins! It was b/c the BurnProof was having to kick in. After DMA was enabled, it now takes 5mins for a 74min CD.

I have made about 10 backup CD-R's so far without a hitch. The BurnProof technology allows you to surf the net, open apps., etc, without worrying about "Buffer Underruns".

I have yet to test the unit's Digital Audio Extraction, but I've read reviews that it's fast. ...

Trust me, you won't be disappointed with this burner!

I didn't buy mine here, but hopefully this will aid you in choosing a CDRW. First off I must say that this CDRW is tops on my list. The software included is NERO. Nero is so much better then Easy CD Creator, I have use both and found that Nero lets you have more options when it comes to burning anything you want onto both a CDR or CDRW disc. When it comes to the speed, how much time you have is what it really comes down to. I have found that 16X is fast enough for me for CDR's. As for CDRW's, 10X is plenty for burning backups. If you are into digital video, Nero has that covered too. The program lets you record video's onto a video cd format playable on most DVD players. What more could you ask for?

Overall: Great Product
Pros: Burns quickly (granted, I'm running a AMD XP 1700 with DDR memory); easy install.
Cons: Good software; It's no Roxio but it gets the job done.

4.0 out of 5 stars No longer has Nero software., April 6, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: CenDyne CDICD00087 16x10x40 IDE CD-RW (Personal Computers)
I bought the 16x10x40x (actually 16x12x40x) to replace my cd drive. It was easier to install than I had expected. Sadly, the unit now comes with NTI software which is somewhat limited and not as nearly as nice as Nero. It is another [amount] to get the pro version of the software.

I've received my unit 16x12x40x ( yes... 12x not 10x ) for several days now and It's been working well in the meantime. Burned 3 good cds out of 3. Average burning time for a 700Mb CD is around 5 minutes or less. Beware however that the unit doesn't come (anylonger) with Nero software as stated in 2 previous reviews. Instead it comes with NTI software (that very easy to use and looks rather minimalist). A little dissapointment, perhaps, since I've been reading favorable reviews on Nero. ..

As for the drive, you cannot use name brand disks in it. They only recommend off brands. The software that comes with it doesn't work properly. You have to go out to Adaptec to find the missing drivers. Altogether a very bad investment. Buy a CD-ROM or CD-RW or DVD from a name brand, not these people.

Do not buy this product. I received it and attempted to install it according to their instructions. My computer didn't recognize it. I then attempted to use it as a replacement to my currect CD-ROM drive and that majorly messed up my computer. After I got that worked out I attempted to again set it up and found that although I was using a power cord that I know works, the drive didn't power up. I sent it back as defective.
