5.0 out of 5 stars Fast and Easy!
This was my first experience installing a drive of any kind. The manual gives complete instructions how to replace an existing CD ROM or install this into an empty bay. It took me about 15 minutes to figure it out and do it. The drive burns fast (I've only done writing so far, no re-writing) - I made an audio CD last night and it burned a full 80 min in 5:41 which...

3.0 out of 5 stars Cendyne CDRW are like a box of chocolate
Cendyne CDRW are like a box of chocolate, you never know what you're going to get. These are repackaged drives from various manufacturers from Liteon to Panasonic to MSI. If you're lucky you're get a liteon drive which are pretty decent. If you're not lucky you'll end up with a MSI drive that will be really noisy beyond belief (feel like your pc tower is about to blast...

This was my first experience installing a drive of any kind. The manual gives complete instructions how to replace an existing CD ROM or install this into an empty bay. It took me about 15 minutes to figure it out and do it. The drive burns fast (I've only done writing so far, no re-writing) - I made an audio CD last night and it burned a full 80 min in 5:41 which includes about 3 minutes that my computer spent calculating track volume for each track and only burning at 32x since that's all the discs will handle that I bought. It also comes with an IDE cable and an audio cable if you need them. I didn't since I was replacing an existing drive. Also, the included Nero burning software helps make it easy to burn any format you need. I'm real happy with it so far.

That will explain why some people might absolutely love their cendyne and some will absolutely hate theirs. Good luck!

2.0 out of 5 stars Think twice before buy this drive or any CenDyne product!, January 21, 2003
This review is from: CenDyne CDICD00118 48x12x48 Internal IDE CD-RW Drive (Personal Computers)
I bought a Verbatim drive (48x12x48) which according to Verbatim's tech support is a re-badged CenDyne. I also picked a CenDyne DVD-ROM. What a mistake!

The CD-RW drive with Nero Burn works on CD-R, but not any CD-RW. I tried different brand CD-RW such as HP, TDK, even Verbatim, but I always got the "Medium Speed Error". The same disc will work in my old TEAC CD-RW drive, which by the way is always quiet and reliable.

The DVD drive is noisy and the disc will have rattling noises at high speed even though the same disc won't make a sound in my TEAC CD-RW drive or NEC CD-ROM drive.

Anyway, for my next drive, I am definitely going back to some decent brand such as NEC or TEAC.

1.0 out of 5 stars worked for 20 days and quit, February 25, 2003
This review is from: CenDyne CDICD00118 48x12x48 Internal IDE CD-RW Drive (Personal Computers)
Purchased drive 12/02 for transferring data files only. Quit working approx 20 days later. Loud vibration and would no longer recognize any blank media. Will still read a CD, on occasion--you guess when. No company support via email after three emails. No 1-800 number and must DIG to find toll number for tech support which so far has not produced a result. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS DRIVE unless you enjoy pain.

1.0 out of 5 stars Kutlu from Albuquerque, January 28, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: CenDyne CDICD00118 48x12x48 Internal IDE CD-RW Drive (Personal Computers)
... Yes, it sounded good to me too. But now, after endless hours of trying to get it to work, they can't pay me enough to buy another.

I have an HP Pavilion with Windows XP Pro. The drive is easy enough to hook up but it didn't come with a driver. My existing CD-Burner software (from Iomega) didn't recognize it as a CD-RW. I installed the "Nero Burning ROM" software which came with the drive. Neither my computer nor my stereo set could play the CDs it burned. Moreover, Nero includes a utility that tests the drive read speed. This 48x drive rated hardly over 32x. Yes, it is super noisy and rattly. I can't believe this drive ever sold for $$$. Don't buy it!

I have Windows 98SE and this will not install. Support has not been helpful (nothing more than automated replies). Don't waste your money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Makes a great beverage holder, February 12, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: CenDyne CDICD00118 48x12x48 Internal IDE CD-RW Drive (Personal Computers)
After about 3 months I started having problems with this thing. At first it worked great, but after burning about the 7th CD it would just quit working. I'd have to restart the computer to get it going again. Ever since then i've been having problems playing regular audio CDs too. Anytime I try to listen to a CD the drive won't read the CD, it says Please Insert Disk into drive yada, yada, yada. Stay away from this one unless you're interested in an expensive beverage holder.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cendyne Products HAVE NO WARRANTY, September 14, 2003
This review is from: CenDyne CDICD00118 48x12x48 Internal IDE CD-RW Drive (Personal Computers)
I found out that Cendyne went into bankruptsy in August of 2003 just before my 48x12x48 CDRW did after only five months. Even their web site exclaims that they will no longer honor their warranty. Cheap drive, valuable lesson.

By A Customer
This review is from: CenDyne CDICD00118 48x12x48 Internal IDE CD-RW Drive (Personal Computers)
I bought a cendyne cd rw 48x12x48 last December. I never could get it to write. It quick working completely at 5 months. I contacted the customer service number which referred me to their website. The message I recieved is that they are going out of business and will not honor anymore warranties. This cd rw was a waste of my money.
