Hard to read, but standard and cheap,
By Sitting on the ground "Jeff G" (Rochester, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: La Cenerentola: Vocal Score (Hardcover)
The music appears to have been put through a photocopier thrice too often. The Italian is difficult to read and the music is very tight on the page. There are no critical notes and no indication about what is editorial and what is Rossini. This edition DOES NOT contain the exciting Alidoro aria that was discovered in an Italian library to replace his rather ho-hum original. However, this is still the standard edition of the vocal score used by most opera companies and has been used for many years. It is considerably less expensive and more convenient than the two volume critical edition. If you're in the opera, this is the best choice. If you're studying/conducting the opera, get the critical edition.

Perfect for Budget Singers,
By NM Singer "Andrea" (Albuquerque, Nm United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: La Cenerentola: Vocal Score (2 Volume Set) (Paperback)
I bought this particular edition because our maestro requested that we purchase one that had the critical edition notes. If you don't know, Zedda critical editions are top-notch.I previously ordered one with another seller only to find out they didn't have it in stock and weren't expecting it any time soon. So, when I found this edition through Amazon, I moved quickly. Overall, I am very satisfied! The front cover says that this is based on the critical edition. There may be some discrepancies as we start to study the opera and bring it to the stage. However, it's the best deal, unless you can afford $200+ for the actual critical edition! Volume I includes notes and history in Italian and English with variations for singer and instrumentalists for the entire opera. Volume II finishes the score. Music is in Italian with the usual awful English translation below. Music is clean and easy to read, not thrice-run as previously stated in another review. I am VERY happy to add this to my library. If this is as close to the critical edition as possible, I feel it is a great buy. Would have liked better tracking on shipping (arrived on the 14th, but tracking info was never up-to-date) but packaging made sure there was no damage to the score; it was air-pillowed and shrink-wrapped in plastic. Thank you, Amazon! You made my operatic life much easier!

This review is from: La Cenerentola: Vocal Score (2 Volume Set) (Paperback)
Beautiful type-set, clear, clean, easy-to-read print. The editors notes are worth a read, but if you're bothering to look at the score in this detail, you most likely already know what's written in it. What's worth the price, and weight, is the ornaments supposedly written by Rossini, which are fantastic and inspiring for the experienced Rossini ornamentor... Get it, get going, and get rockin!
