Editorial Reviews

Review

"This book is evident of Project Censored's profoundly important work in educating readers on current events and the skills needed to be a critical thinker."–Publishers Weekly

“Project Censored remains a beacon for raising awareness of meaningful news.”
—James F. Tracy, Associate Professor of Media Studies at Florida Atlantic University, editor of Democratic Communiqué, journal of the Union for Democratic Communications

"In another home run for Project Censored, Censored 2013 shows how the American public  has been bamboozled, snookered, and dumbed down by the corporate media. It is chock-full of ‘ah-ah’ moments where we understand just how we’ve been fleeced by banksters, stripped of our civil liberties, and blindly led down a path of never-ending war."—Medea Benjamin, cofounder of Global Exchange and CODEPINK, and author of Drone Warfare

"For the smart and courageous news manager, this annual report is a virtual road map for the coming year's news schedule."—The Village Voice

Anyone who values broadening his or her worldview should read the censored news stories within this book. It really makes you question why the corporate media chooses not to inform the public with stories such as these that could effect change if public awareness reached critical mass. Who controls the gatekeepers to the information?

There are good stories here. None are covered in full, but the footnotes could lead a person closer to a thorough understanding of an issue such as what Bradley Manning said to justify his release of classified documents to Wikileaks. Of course, many of the notes refer to the backwater press, little-known websites, and blogs --- where so many good stories can be found.
There are broader themes here, too. Stone and Kuznick's quote "Americans believe that they are unbound by history" is a good lead-in to several controversial topics covered in Section III.
A few stories hit on what this reviewer considers to be very minor controversial matters --- interesting only to a minority of readers.
