Epic,

At first I wasn't quite sure what to make of this new album by Portugal. The Man. I fell in love with their first album (Waiter: You Vultures!) immediately. It took me a little longer to receive their next CD (Church Mouth). This CD though is really starting to grow on me. It is not nearly as loud as their previous CDs but it is definitely as heavy. I think that its one of those CDs that reflects and pays its respects to the 60's and 70's pop and rock and roll as well as putting in their own in to the album. I won't even go in to the detail of how amazing they are live. This band never ceases to amaze me.

Having recently moved to Alaska, I was able to see these guys live in concert at a local Pizza & Pub called Mooses Tooth. I came with no expectations and left trying to pick my jaw off up off the ground. Soon after I purchased Censored Colors and I love it. I'm not classically trained in music so I'll approach this review from the perspective of other things that interest me. Nature, creativity, Osho, Richard Rohr, Jack White, Neutral Milk Hotel, Pink Floyd, Marshall Tucker Band, The Doors, Buddhism, Christianity, getting lost, wandering in wilderness, building things. If you share those likes I'd give Portugal. The Man a try.

this is one of my new favorite bands right now. i found out about them a bit after their first cd came out and i fell in love with that entire album. when the second one came out i didnt enjoy at first, but eventually at times enjoyed it more than the first. and i knew that with this album the band would take on yet another new sound, but while still keeping it portugal. i was very excited to hear this, and was definitly not dissapointed. when i first heard it i wasn't to sure about it. but after a 2 or 3 listens i was all for it. cant wait until they're next release. and like the person before me, if you enjoy this band and haven't seen them live yet. than you are missing out greatly. go see these guys live in action for the full effect.

This is not a good album to start with, if you are not a long-time Portugal. The Man fan. I have on sole reason for saying such a thing.... This album is so beautiful it'll be hard for you to appreciate everything else that they've done because you will be hoping for another "Censored Colors." Now, please, don't misconstrue what I'm saying here... I love Portugal. The Man. They are one of my favorite bands, in fact. This, however, happens to be my favorite album by them, and rightfully so. I love most all of the stuff they've done, including John's earlier band "Anatomy of a Ghost," and there may be some stuff by them I'm not a huge fan of, but if there is none of it comes to mind immediately. They've done a lot of beautiful work, though, is the point, especially as compared to some of the music out there today... So, please, listen to this band. They deserve recognition for how good they actually are, and once you here them you will think they deserve your money, as well. Good albums by them to start with consist of "American Ghetto," "Satanic Satanist," or even their newest album "In the Mountain, In the Cloud," yet, to show how versatile they are, too, as a band, and you are looking for something "thrashier" or even "blusier," then some good albums for you to start with would be "Waiter: You Vultures!" Or "Church Mouth." It's really all your decision, though, and you don't need some nerd taking the time to write this review very few will ever read, however, as a big fan of the band and their music, my opinion would to lead up to this album. Thanks for reading, and if you decide to buy this album now, honest to God you will not be disappointed!

For me, this album was a grower. It took me a while to get used to it but when I did, I completely fell in love with it and it is hands down one of my favorite albums in the last few years, if not my favorite. It definitely shows off Gourley's amazing vocals, especially on 'Created' and 'All Mine'. The music itself has a groovy, dreamy vibe to it, the lyrics are written very vividly and beautifully and it's an all around tasty treat for the ears. These guys have some serious soul and I can't recommend it enough.

Think Pink Floyd meets Motown. Best new band in ages. Saw them live, they put on one of the best shows I've ever seen. Can't recommend them enough.
