Timely, well-researched, and well-written,
This review is from: Censorship, Inc.: The Corporate Threat to Free Speech in the United States (Paperback)
A timely addition to the discussion of free speech in America, Soley's book lays out some of the most serious new threats to free speech - the disappearance of public streets and town commons into private malls and gated communities, where speech can be censored.
In addition, it discusses the threats to consumer safety by the disappearance of information about corporate products and services, the efforts of corporations to censor customers from speaking to other citizens about their experiences with the goods or services they have purchased. Does free speech exist if Homeowner's Associations, businesses, and advertisers can prevent - by threat or lawsuit or both - others from speaking? This is an even-handed and highly readable presentation of specific cases that should be of great use in lively classroom discussions. And it should make us all question the encroachment on the public sphere that is happening with the decline of post-World War II civic values.

Biased but solid,

This review is from: Censorship, Inc.: The Corporate Threat to Free Speech in the United States (Paperback)
Used this book as a primary source for a research paper. The author's political bias is glaringly obvious throughout much of the work ... but the factual evidence is still solid. Recommend it highly.
