Census Substitutes & State Census Records Vol. 1 & 2, January 17, 2008
This review is from: Census Substitutes & State Census Records - Eastern States (Census Substitutes & State Census Records, Volume 1) (Hardcover)
This book in two volumes Vol. 1 Eastern States and Vol. 2 Western States is a ready reference for historians and genealogists. The books are divided by regions and by states giving the years Federal and State Census were conducted, years for which Census substitutes are available. Listed are records that can be used as substitutes, such as tax lists, voter registration, mortality schedules, probate records, warrant registers, military records, immigration and naturalization records, etc. Substitutes vary from state to state. In some cases the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, UT.microfilm numbers are given to assist the reader in his research. For many of the states a bibliography is given of other books and websites for additional infomation. Both volumes are quite complete and easy for the reader to use.
