Book Description

November 26, 2003
The lands of the four centaur lords are never at peace for long. A great storm called the Faulnis, ravages the lands of two centaur lords. The lord of the Northern centaurs, Woden, flees the flooding from the Storm River into the lands of a treacherous Southern centaur, Lord Valgus. This unscrupulous centaur attempts to take over the northern lands. Woden escapes to a friendly centaur lord to the west, Neries. From across the eastern marshes comes the growing menace. This story leads the reader through four centaur kingdoms and their leaders, across mountain passes where danger from other beasts loom each step, into the cavern of a great mountain, and onto wind swept plain. Battles of conquest, surprise and deceit keep the reader spellbound. This story has a cast of characters from centaurs to trolls, giant berserkers, reavers and several others. The climax will keep the reader hurrying to turn the page, guessing possible outcomes.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Centaurs, July 22, 2011

Very good short story. Lot of magic in it. But sometimes it reads as it is only for teenagers. For the rest not bad.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware: Pamphlet Masquerading As Book, January 5, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Centaurs: An Adventure Fantasy (Paperback)
Disclaimer: I am many decades older than 13.

An adventure fantasy? The only thing fantastic about this pamphlet is that someone had the gall to foist it off on an unwitting public.

This trifle is hardly worth the energy it takes to lift. At a whopping 47 pages it is the length of a work for small children, yet is written in the style of an amateur's treatment for a poorly realized screenplay. The list of flaws of this very minor endeavor is far too long to address here.

I suspect the previous review is from the author's nephews. I can't imagine anyone who loves literature and has access to many classic books would appreciate this one. Comic books have more depth and range. At least they have nice illustrations.

It is painfully obvious that the author used a vanity press to publish his work. I can imagine a few boxes of this less than stellar effort now reside in a storage space somewhere. I would suggest that he gets them out and uses them to start fires during the long, cold, lonely winter when he might take the time to write something worthwhile.

Please, spare any other person from the ordeal of reading this tripe!

Do children everywhere the service of directing them toward great books by noted authors like L. Frank Baum, J. K. Rowling, Madeleine L'Engle, Brandon Mull and Rick Riordan, to name but a very few, and away from this sorry excuse for literature.

The one star rating is one star too many. There is no lower rating or I'd have used it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Twins Totally Agree!!!, May 19, 2004
By
Tom and Mike (Dublin, Ireland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Centaurs: An Adventure Fantasy (Paperback)
We agree that this is the best book we have ever read! Our favorite characters are the heroic guard centaurs. The book had really exciting battle scenes that kept us at the edge of our seats. The mythical characters, trolls and beserkers were also very entertaining. We don't always like to read, but we couldn't put this book down. We hope Mr. Gill continues with more books about the centaurs. We would read all of them! This book would also make a great movie!
