Bruce Catton's Three Volume Centennial History remains a worthy must-read: his writing is often lyrical and always clear. In some ways it may be dated - because of new interpretations and emphasis on detailed minutia - but I'd especially recommend it to those readers who may not particularly like military nonfiction.(WARNING: The product title, description, and photo (of three books in a box) are misleading! This is not the boxed set; it's just Volume 1 "The Coming Fury". I thought I was getting one of those exceptional deals but it turns out I was mistaken.) |
