4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good
This is a fairly typical Palmer book, which to me is a good thing. It was well on its way to 5 stars but the ending was a bit of a disappointment for me. It is made clear to the reader that Blake likes Violet a lot, and will work hard to make a happy marriage, but he never confesses his undying love as her other heroes always do. It just feels a bit like a relationship...

I think that Diana needs to get a new editor. There were so many continuity errors in this book-Blake fought in the first gulf war-almost 15 years ago when his reserve unit, that he joined after finishing law school was called up-but he's only 36! I think that Diana needs to get a new editor. There were so many continuity errors in this book-Blake fought in the first gulf war-almost 15 years ago when his reserve unit, that he joined after finishing law school was called up-but he's only 36! He must be incredibly intelligent to have finished law school and practiced before he was 22. Another thing, he and Cag Hart were both Special Forces, but they served in a mechanized division (I can't vouch for the 1st Mech Inf Div, but I know that my unit, the 24th had no SF guys in it). And the whole Shannon thing was kind of creepy-how old was he(since he was back from the war and practicing law again) when he started going out with a high school girl?
This whole book just squicked me out-thank heavens it came from a second hand shop.

It is made clear to the reader that Blake likes Violet a lot, and will work hard to make a happy marriage, but he never confesses his undying love as her other heroes always do. It just feels a bit like a relationship based on lust on his part, and one can only hope love will blossom in the future. This one kept me entertained but will not go on my keeper shelf to be re-read until it falls apart, as has been the case with so many of her other stories.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed :(, January 3, 2006
I love Diana Palmer. She's one of my favorite writers. However, this book left me disappointed. One reviewer mentioned it and I'll mention it again - He never said he loved her! I even flipped back a few pages to see if I missed something. Nope. He never said it. From their previous mention in other novels I was really looking forward to their story. It was quite upsetting not to have the great story I know that Diana can write!

1.0 out of 5 stars Is Diana Palmer the author?, November 24, 2005

I have almost every book written by Ms. Palmer. I have been disappointed in several of her latest books but this one is the worst. Number one I expect the hero to confess undieing love for the heroine, or I have missed the point of "Romance " novels. Secondly, Blake states early in the book that his dad ran away with a french woman and his mother died of cancer. Later in the book his dad dies when he was young and the mother of a heart attack. Which is it? Sloppy editing at its extreme. I expect more for Violet than for some man to use her for sex and then want out after she is pregnant.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth reading, November 14, 2005
I have read most of the books that Diana Palmer has written and this one really disappointed me. It seems like her books are either really good or really bad. The thing about this book that really bothered me was there were parts of it that were totally out of place in the story. Violet also couldn't make up her mind. She's gonna quit her job and work for someone else. Then she is going to go back to work for the boss that treats her badly. DP has written some books that I really enjoy but this isn't one of them. I also really wish she would update the way her characters speak and dress and act. Today's 22 yr old virgin is not clueless. And are there no single women in their 30's or late 20's in Jacobsville? Do all of DP's hero's need a virgin? And it would be nice if the heroine's had more backbone and careers and if there wasn't always a ten+ year age difference between the couples. Or spend so much time listing characters from previous books unless they are relevant to the story. And there are some major editing mistakes in this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting take on a man who can't totally give his heart!, December 20, 2005
By
Marilyn Shoemaker (Seattle, Washington) - See all my reviews
This story of Blake Kemp and Violet Hardy was an interesting one for the Long Tall Texan series. I see on this website the reviews aren't the normal for Diana Palmer and I wondered why until I finished the book myself.

So here's the summary from the back of the book:
Blake Kemp was a man who knew his own mind and was as stubborn as the day is long in Jacobsville, Texas. As the town's leading lawyer, he had a reputation to uphold, and he didn't want the tender ministrations of his assistant to get in his way - even if he desperately needed her, since those big boots of his did have a tendency to step on toes...

So, of course, the boss man blew up at pretty, gentle Violet, for having the nerve to, of all things, step on his toes, causing her to leave him in a cloud of Texas dust.

But being a smart as well as hardheaded man, Blake could soon see that without his guiding light, his life would be in darkness. Only one thing to do - hire her back and make sure that business didn't mess with matters of the heart...on or off the job!

Now for my thoughts...... I think the reason most don't warm up to this storyline is due to the fact that the main character, Blake is still carrying the torch for a deceased love of his life and can't get passed it. Throughout the story he struggles with memories and I sincerely believe he feels guilty for his feelings towards Violet whether sexual or just because she's a sweet caring person.

I believe readers have the right to their thoughts but in most cases I feel they're being too critical of the author in regards to this storyline. Most of us want "happy ever after". But that's not life is it people? Life can be harsh, cruel and lonely. I think Diana Palmer tried to show the reader that side of life and yet let us believe that people can commit to a relationship and be happy and hopefully both parties fall in love.

So I liked the book, loved how Diana mentioned the town's people of Jacobsville and gives us a slight glimpse into the next story in her series.

1.0 out of 5 stars Save your money., December 6, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I know that this is suppose to be the rewrite of the Long, Tall, Texans story but it's just horrible! Why keep rehashing the same storylines as before?! The story was better in The Long, Tall, Texans so don't even waste your money reading about the same characters stuck in the same senerios they got over in the earlier book. This is just a way for Diana Palmer to make easy some easy cash! She had to have been intoxicated when she thought up this mess! I read it twice and it still made no sense. Trust me, spare yourself the headache and find another book to buy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dissapointed, January 17, 2006

In other books Blake has tantalized with the possibility of a good romance but when his turn came, I found his story a dissapointment. It was the same for Dr. Coltrain & Cash Grier; the possibility of a highly charged romance was hinted at in stories where they had 'guest appearances' but it seemed that when it became time to tell thier stories Diana was tired of them and just threw a combination of old plots and contradictory situations together. Diana Palmers works are either very good or very bad and I won't spend the money on hardcover any more. I'll wait for the paperback.

2.0 out of 5 stars Wheres the hero?, October 14, 2006

(REAL NAME)
Typical romance by Diana Palmer. Violet is a strong character, unlike a lot of the females in the other books. However, the male character in this one comes up extremely short. He has no attractive attributes whatsoever. He's selfish, caught in the past, and unwilling to do his part to make the relationship work. It seems like he cares about his pet cats more. Even to the end, he makes Violet settle for a measly relationship.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed Fan, December 14, 2005
The past couple of books that I have read from Diana Palmer seem to go off in directions and details that are boring and in my opinion irrelevant to the story!! For example, in this story she writes about nutrition and how the heroine is learning to eat the right foods, and even goes on to mention what she is eating to stay trim. Some of the romance also seems forced. I was really disappointed when I read this book. It is missing the usual Palmer excitement and romance. Most of her books I cannot put down. I could not wait to put this one down!
