3.0 out of 5 stars Apprehensive about this dvd release, August 28, 2011

Centipede Horror

As a well informed film fan who watches and loves films from all around the world I was really pleased to see this film had been released. Many great Hong Kong films are still awaiting release or will probably never see the light of day. As far as the film is concerened, Centipede Horror may not have any state of the art visual/makeupfx, nor is it particularly gory but it keeps you interested and is similar in some ways (though less visually ambitious) to the first two Black Magic films. There's one scene of full frontal female nudity as well as the notorious centipede vomiting scene (other stuff includes the usual battle between good and evil wizards, reanimating chicken skeletons, flying fire balls, sore/bite covered victims - familiar to any fan of East Asian horror).Yes the subtitles are fast and hard to read but I've seen so many subtitled films it wasn't a problem. So having seen plenty of Hong Kong films, and knowing what to expect, as a film I really enjoyed it and would have awarded five stars. But Appehensive films should know better than to release this film on a dvd-r. I expect (for the high price I paid), a properly mastered dvd with the usual silver underside. Dvd-r's are less stable, particularly if ripped at high speed. If i'm parting with my cash i want a professional product and the fact this is a dvd-r should have been explained in the product description somewhere. While i appreciate that this company has brought a cult film to the dvd market I am apprehensive about Apprehensive Films for ripping people off like this, it's obviously cheaper to burn to dvd-r than bother to actually master a proper dvd. Consumers deserve better.

It's okay.Pretty good couple of gory scenes but plot was pretty out there.I also didn't like the fact it wasn't in english. It's hard to watch movie and read words at the same time.Overall,it was watchable and centipedes were creepy.James.

I can't say I've seen this. I've tried to watch it twice but the subtitles are horrid! The font is skinny and the type is so small that it is difficult to read. Not to mention that they go flying by before you can finish reading it. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Asian movies and have quite a collection going and for the most part they are great. But this is the first one where I had difficulty reading the subtitles. And I couldn't figure out why they had the subtitles both in Japanese (or whatever it was) AND English. I mean if you can understand what they are saying, WHY would you need to read it too? All in all, I was very dissappointed with this. I will give it a few more tries but after that I will ask Amazon if I can return it.
