DON'T expect much (Misleading title - NOT ACCEPTING MP4 FILE FORMAT),
By John Le "AtlJohn" (Atlanta, GA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Centon 2GB moVox MP4 Player - 2GBMP4-001 (Electronics)
This is definitely not a MP4 player. It only accepts AMV, which is a Chinese version of video files. It takes approximately 20 min to convert a AVI file to AMV format. Plus, the resolution for the display screen is 190x120 maximum. After 15 minutes looking at that screen, you are guaranteed to have watery eyes. My player even have another problem, I must tilt the screen to be able to to see the correct picture (20 degrees tilt). The control is not easy to figure out and cause a bit of inconvenient because buttons are too small and on the wrong side for a right-handed person. This is a cheap MP3 player, so DON'T expect much from it.

Bought this player for my son. Right off the bat, he had problems, but the Centon technical support was helpful and was able to help me reformat the player. Had no problems loading songs onto player. After only 2 months though, we were at an outdoor event. He put the player in his front pants pocket, sat down, stood up, got the player back out and the screen was cracked. Never dropped it or hit it. Centon refuses to warranty it, so now we're out a player. Think I'm unhappy? You bet.

Does not play mp4, User Interface is terrible,

It does not play mp4. It boggles the mind how they can call it an mp4 player when it does not support mp4. The user interface is terrible, truly unintuitive and a pain to work with. That said, once you figure out the players quirks and limitations it works fine.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Centon 2GB moVox MP4 Player - 2GBMP4-001 (Electronics)
First off, I want to emphasize that although I'm giving this product 2 stars, Amazon deserves a lot of credit for their excellent refund service, which was quick and easy.
This player uses the same ACTION chipset that those Chinese-made imitation iPods you can buy on [...] do. The difference is basically the casing and the fact that you can buy those for several bucks less. Good luck returning them back to China, though, which is why I went with Amazon. Also, most of the imitation iPods have a memory hack that creates the impression of the player having twice as much RAM as it actually does. This CENTON does not have that issue. It is a true 2 GB player. I had just just such an ACTION chipset imitation iPod for nearly two years; it had the same operating system and user interface as this CENTON. That player served me well for nearly two years of rough use and continued working perfectly before I lost it on a bus. This CENTON on the other hand worked beautifully for two days, then bright lines started appearing on screen. These lines became worse and were permanent, making the screen, and player, unusable. Maybe this was the one that slipped through quality control, and is just a fluke, but I still wouldn't recommend buying one after my experience. Also, the player sent did not match the picture in the Amazon ad. The one I got had several silver buttons on the front. ---------------------------------------------------------------- I've noticed that some people who bought this and similar players complain that they can't play videos. This is not so. Here's an explanation. These types of players can only play a specific kind of video format called ".amv". You have to convert your mp4's and avi's to the .amv format first. You can download the software that performs this conversion from the manufacturer's website, if it doesn't come with the player itself. Once you load the amv videos on these players, they play just fine.

I got this new at a local electronics store. I had not seen anything like this so I was kinda pumped about it and had a few uses for it in mind.
Took it right home and wasted like 6 hours loading clips of every video file format I could possibly think of (including MP4, AVI, many others), and just never could get it to work. Taking it back tomorrow. Ug |
