5.0 out of 5 stars The essential Piazzola, May 1, 1999
By
ajgrop@essex.ac.uk (Colchester, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Central Park Concert (Audio CD)
The Central Park concert has the best version of "Adios Nonino" I ever heard, the best version and the most virtuous introduction to both "Mumuki" and "Contra Bajissimo", and you will have the plus that Astor himself will explain you in two minutes what is Tango. As an argentinien I have been listening Piazzola's music since I was a teen and the Central Park Concert (and also the Vienna Concert) are the best of him. Close your eyes and when you will open them everything will be different.

5.0 out of 5 stars The night Tango met with Jazz & Fussion!, April 25, 2000

This review is from: Central Park Concert (Audio CD)
This is a perfect expample of Piazzola's life-time effort to free Tango from its classic structure and pre-conceived rythm. This superb concert shows what Piazzola was capable of doing with the very popular music of the City of Buenos Aires. This CD offers an excelent recording, nice and emotional communication between Piazzola and the audience, and the selections chosen are among the best of the composer. The material includes the good and long version of "Adios Nonino" (with the piano solo part), impressive and challenging versions of "Verano Porteño", "Milonga del Angel", and "Muerte de Angel" (vintage Piazzola), the expansive music of Concert for Quintet ("Concierto Para Quinteto") and the jazzy sounds of Contrabajismo and Mumuki. Thanks to Piazzola, Tango is more than an exotic night-show for turists in the long nights of Buenos Aires. This is an extraordinary chance for the listener to allow Piazzola to take him to a place where the emotions of Tango meet with Jazz, Fussion, and Classic music. Other related artists: Cacho Tirao, Anibal Troilo, Luis Salinas, and Al Dimeola (accoustic recordings only).

5.0 out of 5 stars Haven't tried Piazzolla yet ? Buy this one !, April 22, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Central Park Concert (Audio CD)
I love Piazzolla's music. I own several CDs and I am currently into compositions by his followers. Yet, this CD is the one I always choose to initiate my friends to this wonderful music. It has great selection, it is interpreted with great passion, and it sounds great. Even the part when he talks (briefly) about himself and his music warms my heart everytime. In fact, I am going to listen to my copy as soon as I am done writing this. Enjoy !

5.0 out of 5 stars absolutely mind-blowing, August 15, 2008

One of the most beautiful recording I ever listened to... piazzolla or others. His music synthesizes the deepest spirit of Buenos Aires and the argentinian culture. His musicians are all virtuosos and exceptionally interpret the dirty, dragged, dark, nostalgic sound of the tango... that the maestro Pablo Ziegler defines so well.
Adios Nonino's introduction by Pablo leaves me shaking. La Camorra's contradictions are perfectly put together. Astor's words are just Astor!
Just like Al Di Meola said after one of his concerts, once you listen to his music, there is no single day I don't think of Piazzolla.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sizzling, rapturous, the essence of tango..., April 28, 1999

This CD captures the excitement and charisma of one of the greatest composers of our time. The live recording captures an air of spontaneity and immediacy that is harder to distinguish in the studio recordings of the same pieces. This makes CD makes a sensational introduction to "Nuevo Tango."

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Astor, June 11, 2007
This review is from: Central Park Concert (Audio CD)
This was an icon of the pop culture, why not? of all the culture in general, Piazzolla's greatest concert in a city that's a very crittical about the music, but when was happen, was a boom, and this record show the genious, sensitve, magnificence & a deep humility (as all the greatest) masterpieces for all the music (in special of tango) like Adios Nonino, Lunfardo, Milonga del Angel & Michelangelo was fabulous, i'm sorry that don't get Libertango, VIVA SUPER ASTOR
