Excellent, Scholarly,

This is a top-notch book, with excellent research, and a great deal of information on the Mauser rifle, among other things. If you want to know everything there is to know about the history of German or Austro-Hungrarian Small Arms up to 1918, this _is_ the book! An excellent buy.

He covers it all from weapon design to procurement process to the effectiveness of the weapon in combat. Plus, it's got lots of very nice photographs of the weapons under discussion.
