Centrum-brand vitamins are made by a quality company, which is important in buying vitamins. Since the vitamin industry is not regulated by the FDA, manufacturers can put just about anything on the label to sell their product, and many do! Oft times the supposed ingredients are not even in the product, and this is why a name-brand product is essential. The Centrum-brand is one that the consumer can trust.

Centrum-Silver is a product targeted for adults and those older than 55 years of age. However, this vitamin formulation can be taken by any adult with effectiveness.

Vitamins are elements and chemical compounds that help the body's cells function better, mostly in the area of cell/body metabolism. If one eats a balanced diet high in greens and fruits, extra store-bought vitamins are probably not essential, as vitamins are supplied in adequate quantities in the food consumed. However, the typical American diet is notorious for being high in sugars and low in veggies and fruits, therefore making supplemental vitamins important. Diets high in sugars demand more vitamin compounds to help metabolize the sugars. Since the average American consumes more than 110 pounds of dietary (table sugar: ,sucrose) sugars each year, supplemental vitamins are important if not essential to take on a daily basis.

When selecting a vitamin product, it is important to get the basic vitamins, such as the A's to E's, but it is also important to get the minerals and trace elements too, as these compounds and elements are essential to metabolism and cellular health of the body's various functions including the immune system. This product has all the basics covered and more, and that is why I like it.

Most vitamin companies when formulating their vitamin compound give 100% of the RDA or more. I am not a believer in mega-vitamins (formulations that provide many times more than the RDA) because the body can only use so much and the extra is generally excreted in the urine. The only exception to this rule is the fat-soluble vitamins, (Vitamin A, E, and K). Fat-soluble vitamins can be stored to excess in the body and can reach toxic levels. With this in mind, it makes no sense to continually consume fat-soluble vitamins in excess.

One final thing: many manufacturers make claims that their vitamin product is going to make you "feel" better, a sensation of vitality that will be noticable. Perhaps if you have been in a state of malnutrition for many years, this claim may be valid for some, but I have taken vitamins most of my life, and I feel about the same whether I take them or not. Rather than judge the effectiveness of vitamins on how they "feel", judge them instead on knowing that you have all the bases covered in terms of cell metabolism, for once this is covered, your cells will be as healthy as nutrition can make them.

This product arrived on 12.29.2009 but the expiration date is 07.2010. Although it still has 7 months to get expired, I just can't believe the bottles stayed in somewhere else for 3 years before it got to my place. I'd rather grab it in CVS or RiteAid next time.

Excellent deal on 220 tablets of Centrum Silver. This is about a 50% savings from buying this product from a local drug store; and it probably is the best on the market.

I brought 8 bottles of the centrum silver,220 for adult 50+. But when I received it, I found that it is not the same one as the picture shows. The picture is lying to me. What I received is not the latest product but the previous product, and the expiry left only one year. So be careful, don't make mistake like me.

The Centrum Silver Multivitamin for 50+ did not dissolve as I expected and caused stomach cramps and pains. Will not re-order these multivitamins again. Try "Nature's Alive" for men 50+ better nutrionional value from a perspective of vitamins and minerals, not to mention lots of fruits annd vegetables included.

I take this because I am not allowed iron supplements. The product has a complete mix but not an excess of anything. This is best because the long term effects of high doses of some vitamins is still unkown. This product covers all the bases to make sure you get at least the minimum required for health. Made by a reputable company so you do not need to worry about where it came from or what is in it. Some other less well known brands have had contamination problems (such as lead) or sub-potency. This is a good safe complete product.

Price is good also. The only problem is the tablets are kind of too big to swallow.

I'm only 21 years old, but swear by this version of a multi-vitamin, its one of the cheapest you can get, but mainly the reduced amount of vitamin A and iron leaves me comforted because of my high fat / high meat diet that already leaves me with a lot of iron (which is higher in regular mv's). Note that I have to eat at least 100 calories worth of food or drink in order to hold one of these pills down or I risk vomiting.

I am a very active person (I run 1200 miles a year) and recognize that to maintain my energy levels, a good multivitamin is necessary in addition to a well balanced diet. After examining various brands, I chose Centrum, which I have been taking for years, even before I "qualified" for the Silver formulation that is targeted for adults 50+ years old.

This multivitamin has all the standard vitamins as well as various minerals that you will not find in other formulations. In addition, you just have to take one tablet a day, as opposed to some other multivitamins where you have to take up to 7 tablets a day to get what you need.

Shop for price. I buy these at my local Costco in a 285-Count bottle that costs less than the 220-Count Bottle sold on Amazon.
