Book Description

February 18, 2002
This electronic book on CD-ROM presents the complete story of NASA's work in the exciting field of astrobiology and related research, including SETI and the search for other planetary systems. Workshops at the Ames Research Center are highlighted, along with extensive coverage of major ongoing projects including important Discovery program missions, IPFF, Kepler, and Europa mission planning. Information and photography of Europa from the highly successful Galileo mission is included. NASA's new Origins program (which, as NASA states, covers "galaxies, stars, planets, and life) is described in detail. Nearly 12,000 pages of text and photos are presented in the easy-to-use Adobe Acrobat PDF format.

This book-on-a-disc makes a superb reference work for space enthusiasts, libraries, researchers, schools, students, and home reference! It is designed to provide a convenient user-friendly general reference work, utilizing the benefits of the Adobe Acrobat format to uniformly present thousands of pages that can be rapidly reviewed or printed without untold hours of tedious searching and downloading. Vast archives of important government information that might otherwise remain inaccessible are available for instant review. The documents are reproduced using Adobe Acrobat PDF software - allowing direct viewing on Windows and Apple Macintosh systems. Reader software is included on the CD.

1.0 out of 5 stars do not waste your money, August 19, 2006

This review is from: 21st Century Complete Guide to Astrobiology and the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI): NASA Spacecraft and Telescopes, Europa and ... for Extra-solar Planets and Planetary Systems (CD-ROM)
This product is very low quality. The files on the disk are poorly organized and the pdf's do not print well (edges cut off, etc.). But fundamentally this CD is a waste of money - you can get the contents on-line for free at NASA, SETI, etc., websites. And more importantly, you will get far more up-to-date information. If you want the latest fascinating information on astrobiology, this is not the place to get it. You are much better off browsing various NASA, astronomy and science magazine websites, and especially the free and very current "Astrobiology Magazine" site.
