21st Century Complete Guide to Lighthouses, Light Stations.., January 6, 2003
This review is from: 21st Century Complete Guide to Lighthouses, Light Stations and Historic Ships: National Park Service, Navy, and Coast Guard Inventories and Images (CD-ROM)
I was hoping this was going to be a CD version of the book that the National Park Service put out by Candice Clifford, but with more material about each lighthouse. I was sadly disappointed. The listings are not nearly complete as the title says it is. I'm sorry but even though Rhode Island is small it does have more than one lighthouse. The photo section has many photos, but the listings are so cryptic that unless you know the particular lighthouse and its location you may not be able to interpret which one you are looking at. The images are JPEG's which don't allow for much detail also. From the compilers point of view I can understand not wanting to give out higher quality images for free though. Obviously there was a large effort put into compiling what was done. But it doesn't compare even closely with Candice Clifford's book. A book that I take everywhere I go to photograph lighthouses. I'm even thinking of getting another one just in case I loose the first.
