A cool read...IF you can stay awake until page 91,

(see 2nd paragraph for book description)
I bought Century from a Borders in England with the intent of reading it on the 7+ hour plane ride home, but found myself bored and confused by page 5. I tried several more times to finish the story, but it just wouldn't hold my interest. A couple weeks later, I forced myself to begin reading it again, and it was like pulling teeth! Then I got to page 91 and seriously it was like reading a different book. The tedious, lackluster plot began to shine and I was so drawn into the story, that it only took me an hour to finish. So if you're a dedicated reader and can stay awake, and not get confused up until the part where Cladius explains things to Mercy, you'll enjoy this story. Here's the summuary on the book: Mercy and her sister Charity live in a twilight world going to bed just as the sun rises. Their house remains shrouded in perpetual winter, each day unfolding exactly the same as the next. Mercy has never questioned her widowed Father about the way they live--and why until she wakes up find a snow drop (flower) on her pillow: a first sign of spring--and a nod toward a new future. A meeting with the mysterious Cladius unsettles Mercy and starts her on a winding path throuhg the family's history, unearthing clues about her mother's death and their house frozen in time. But as each piece of the past slots in place, the world Mercy has known has begun to unravel... Can she discover the truth without destroying her home, her father and all she has ever known? |
