Those who study English literature or are involved in translations need to widen their terminology and constantly improve their linguistics. I personally achieved this with numerous dictionaries and one of them was certainly the 21st Century Synonym and Antonym Finder. With its concise and accurate definitions one easily finds the perfect term and also keeps it in mind - and that is also of great importance. With finishing my studies of foreign languages and their literatures, I have been mostly involved in translations and thus been forced to rummage considerably through books and dictionaries - believe me you will find this book indispesanble once you have it.

A good antonym "finder" or "dictionary" is very hard to come by. This is the exception. And it doesn't just offer one obscure antonym for each word in the "dictionary" that barely seems to meet the definition. In many cases it offers several. For example, for quotation/quote, it offers four: paraphrase, recapitulation, restatement, summary.

I think this little book is the best of its kind.

It's right on my desk between my dictionary and thesarus where it belongs. When I can't think of the right word - which happens - it's there. I've used it as much as the other two.

I have a small collection of dictionaries and reference books, but I didn't have anything dealing with "antonyms and synonyms". This book is great for my library.

The huge Roget's Thesaurus is gathering dust on my shelf, but I've just about worn out this one. Wordwise, it's not 100% complete, but for convenience, portability and content, it's perfect for my needs. Even if I can't find the exact word I'm searching for (the one maddeningly hovering around the edges of a thought) I can find one that'll do. Who could ask for more? For purists and pedants, this won't take the place of Roget, but it's not supposed to. For the moderately literate on the quest for a precise adjective, it's great (ample, extensive).

An excellent resource book. I use it every day and it has improved my writing. Or, maybe I just confuse everyone with the multitude of words I appear to have at my command. Recommend this book.

I cannot tell you what an invaluable reference book this is.
For us writers, sometimes a thesaurus just cannot do the job this book can do.

I am a writer and have found this book an invaluable resource! Edited by the Princeton Language Institute, this 520 page book contains over 200,000 synonyms and antonyms. It's great!

Buyer beware! I purchased this book new from Amazon - not used from a reseller. When it arrived, I noticed that it only contained word entries through "swagger." All entries past that - from T to Z - were missing.

I had much better luck with Roget's 21st Century Thesaurus, 3rd edition (ISBN 978-0-440-24269-7). That book contains many more words, and includes antonyms for almost all of them. It's a much more thorough book. Don't waste your money on this half-a-book.
