I use this for my acne breakouts and it is an almost instant cure overnight. If put on the skin as you feel a breakout spot, apply a bit of gel (or cream) and it will relieve the soreness and stop the breakout before it even happens. I still praise it's use as a cold sore solution over anything on the market.

Cepacol Viractin cream & gel for cold sores are the best. I was very disappointed using Abreva it is a waste of money. Please bring back both Viractin cream & gel for cold sores. I need it URGENTLY.

Cepacol works much better than Abreva on preventing blistering (put on at first sign). Viractin helps manage the pain of cold sores, and speeds up recovery because of moisture, less pain. Less pain = less bothersome = less you mess with the sores. Plus Viractin was half the price of Abreva which did not seem to help me, but sure cost a lot more. I tried Abreva several times because I could not find Viractin. I was left unimpressed every time.

I think the hype behind Abreva exist because GlaxoSmithKlein spent a lot of money to send their product through FDA's approval process. Simply because a product is FDA approved, this does not mean that it is the best product on the market; it is however the best product on the market that was submitted, and funded to move through the FDA approval process. The FDA process is not mandatory for over the counter meds. It is a company's choice. Given the associated cost, over the counter meds are rarely submitted to the FDA.
Only Abreva has gone through the FDA process. I wonder if initially, GSK wanted to keep Abreva as a prescribed med., but had to change their plans.

Cepacol discontinued Viractin.

Dear Cepacol, please bring back Viractin! Just take a look at all the comments on the web from people who benefited from your product. You made a very good product. Bring it back.

For me, this is the best product ever for any mouth sore. Viractin deadens the pain and quickens the healing process. I have used Viractin for years and still get same great results.

I've been using this product for years and I love it, however, I cannot find it in any store to purchase - only on the internet and I can't understand why. You used to be able to buy it in drug stores but now they don't even have it in their book to order! It is fabulous. I use it in conjunction with Abreva. I use Abreva to shorten and lessen the severity of the cold sore and I use the Viractin for protection and pain relief from the sore. I highly recommend this product to everyone who suffers from cold sores. I only wish I could buy it at a local store.

I ordered a tube of Viractin cold sore gel, and when it arrived today it has an expiration date on it of February 2011. It would appear to me that this is old stock. Since this is October 2010, and the product is only used a couple of times a year, the product will be expired before it is even partially used up. Not a good buy!

I am squeezing the last little bit of Viractin cream from my little .25 oz tube. This
is the best medication that I have found that effectively clears up a fever blister or
cold sore. I do wish that I could find it again to purchase. I don't know why it
is so hard to find unless it has been discontinued, and then I question why, because it
works!
Concerned,
Sherry
