4.0 out of 5 stars Very good grinder
I purchased the mill to use for grinding flax seeds. While it does an excellent job, I gave it 4 starts because it is impractical for this use. It takes about a minute to get a teaspoonful of flax seeds ground up, so it's useless for those wanting to grind the daily recommended amount of 2 tablespoonfuls. I tested it on peppercorns, red pepper flakes and dried basil, and...

Purchased this grinder for red pepper flakes -- you know, the kind in the round glass jar with the perforated steel top at your local pizza joint.

It works well enough for kicking up my lunch when I'm at work.

5.0 out of 5 stars A splendid little grinder, August 8, 2008

This is a splendid little grinder. I'm up to three of them - one for sea salt, one for mixed peppercorns, and one for a favorite herb blend. I'm considering adding a couple more for dried chipotles and smoked salt. Absolutely no complaints, a terrific product. Very easy to use and clean, and I like red. ;-)

Purchased this grinder for red pepper flakes -- you know, the kind in the round glass jar with the perforated steel top at your local pizza joint.

It works well enough for kicking up my lunch when I'm at work.

However ...

The coarseness adjustment is too coarsely 'stepped', making 'dialing-in' the desired coarseness a hit-or-miss process. A single click one way can make the difference between whole, unground flakes making their way through the grinder, and a single click the other way can result in too powdery a grind. I'd expect that there are some situations where one couldn't get the desired grind.

And it's kind of plastic-y.

At the end of the day, you do get what you pay for. It's adequate for my lunch kit at work (and a decent enough value for that), but I'll be looking for a better product for more exacting kitchen work at home.

No mess on the table! Easy to fill and perfect for pepper and sea salt, or for whole spices. Sturdy and handsome, they are a great replacement for the broken Crate and Barrel ones I had to toss out!

I've been wanting a spice grinder for years and saw this in a magazine. Wasn't too impressed. Took a long time to grind the spices out. Guess I need to find a battery operated one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Spice Grinder, May 15, 2010

This handy little spice grinder is similar to a peppercorn grinder. In fact, it would work well for most any small, hard spice or seed, as well as salt crystals.
It is available in other colors, I just happen to have red decorations in my RV kitchen. I purchased this item because I need small appliances and gadgets in my RV, my "Little House" as that is where I live.

I use this grinder to dispense dried Bhut Jolokia pepper flakes. So far it has worked perfectly. Keep in mind that the pepper I am grinding is already fairly fine so I do not have the issue that others have mentioned with flax seeds. The grind adjustment does not work as well as my Maximill grinder, but it is perfect for dispensing finely ground, small amounts of the current hottest pepper in the world. It would have gotten a 5 but the grind adjustment seems to be fine or course, nothing much in between.

5.0 out of 5 stars PROOF of Alien technology!, September 20, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Ceramic Spice Grinder - Warm Red - with adjustable coarsness wheel (Kitchen)
There are those who scoff at the suggestion that our Space Brothers walk among us. How, though, can they explain the alien technology brought into play in this apparently "simple" spice grinder? It is obvious to those with eyes to see that advanced alien technology, perhaps of the sort found near Area 51, was involved in the fabrication and the substance of the grinding mechanism - a material almost as hard as diamond, capable of easily grinding the hardest terrestrial seeds! And that crimson hue - so unlike anything found in nature - because it is extra-natural! It comes from beyond! They walk among us!
