Editorial Reviews

Germany based Hard Rock band PINK CREAM 69 is about to release it s long overdue new studio album Ceremonial - the band's eleventh - coming about 5 years after the successful In10sity.

2013 marks the full force return of PINK CREAM 69. Strengthened by second guitarist Uwe Reitenauer and the new drummer Crhis Schmidt, the band delivers another brilliant piece of music: Ceremonial, a full blast of hard rock stadium power!

This isn't necessarily a bad thing; these guys are great at this kind of music.

PC69 is one of my favorite bands. Whether it's the really old stuff with Andy Deris or the newer with David Readman, they always release solid albums. In my opinion, David Readman is one of the better metal vocalist out there, but unfortunately because they aren't in the US, he doesn't get the credit he deserves. This band has never gotten the recognition they deserve either. I think the band name is hard for people to take serious, which is a shame. Anyone who loves great hard rock/metal, with solid vocals, needs to pick up this album. You will not be dissapointed. If you like Readman's vocals, you need to also check out Voodoo Circle.

It has been a long time (6 years) since their last release and they have been one of my favorite bands since the late 90s, so I was really looking forward to this cd. I expected to like it. I really wanted to like it. I tried to like it, but I have been driving around with it for over a month, waiting for something (anything!) to stand out and it just ... never happened. I mean the guy can sing, the band can play and the production is top-notch, but the songs just aren't there. Don't get me wrong, they aren't terrible. They are just predictable and ultimately they are boring. I don't know what the problem is. A lot of the guys in this band are spread pretty thin with side projects. Maybe they put more effort into those and were just going through the motions here. That being said, aside from being disappointed in this album, I am also deeply disturbed at how many reviews I've read on this cd that compare it to to PC69's previous release, In10sity. Don't believe that. That album was fantastic and full of energy and I stand by my review that that might have been their best album, while this is their worst since 1997's Food for Thought. It pains me to say it, but this album is weak. Right down to the awful cover art, the whole thing is just forgettable.

Cover to cover, this cd immerses you in rhythm and melody, with a classic rock edge and a thump in the chest. If only US radio would allow the Europeans airtime over here. And I'm an American but there's way too much crap on the radio and not nearly enough wham-bam rock that'll melt butter or steel equally. Love this band!

It's been six long years, but we finally have a new Pink Cream 69 album. Ceremonial is the German melodic hard rock/metal band's eleventh studio album, and it comes at a time when the various band members have been more than a little busy with other projects. Dennis Ward, who is always busy as a producer, has been a big part of Unisonic, David Readman has been active with Voodoo Circle, and they lost longtime drummer Kosta Zafiriou, who joined Unisonic full-time (he was replaced by their former drum tech Chris Schmidt).

The obvious risk with taking so long between albums is that the new one has to be worth the wait, and to be perfectly honest, Ceremonial doesn't quite measure up to the previous PC69 albums. Everything seems a bit more restrained somehow. Maybe Ward got all his metal kicks out in Unisonic, because Ceremonial is a much more melodic rock-style album than In10sity. Likewise Readman doesn't seem to push himself the way he did on the new Voodoo Circle album (the totally killer More Than One Way Home). This isn't necessarily a bad thing; these guys are great at this kind of music. Still, some of the energy and electricity is missing this time around, so Ceremonial sometimes feels more like a Place Vendome album.

The highlights on this album are the songs where the band tends to rock out the most; songs like "Let the Thunder Roll," "Land of Confusion" and "I Came to Rock." Still, even slower songs like "King for One Day" are really memorable too.

I always had soft spot for PC69 (PC69 is one of the most underrated Hard Rock/Heavy Metal bands, in my opinion...) so I was quite excited to get my hands on their new album "Ceremonial". As usual, PC69 delivers very good, well balanced album - lots of good quality Hard Rock songs . "Special" is definitely the best song of the album (and probably one of the best PC69 songs overall) in my opinion. Good job PC69 - you did not disappoint me :)
