4.0 out of 5 stars New Age / Acoustic Space / Tribal / Didjeridu, February 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Ceremony (Audio CD)
"Ceremony" consists of 4 tracks, titled "Past", "Present", "Future", and "One". This recording is primarily a showcase for the Didjeridu, an ancient Australian Aboriginal "aerophone", or drone, instrument. Daniel Lauter, a Bay Area resident, plays the Didj and several other wind instruments, and is accompanied by the late Suru Ekeh, a percussionist from Nigeria, who adds a variety of drums, gongs, and bells to the recording. The feel of this music is meditative and serene, and the sound quality of the recording is very high. Total play time is approximately 50 minutes. There is a new recording from this duo, titled "Sacred Blueprint", that is also very good. The unique quality of the Didjeridu is that the sound is continuous, a buzzing drone of various pitch, and is produced by a technique called "circular breathing", where the musician inhales a quick breath while pushing stored air from the cheeks out the mouthpiece. "Ceremony" and "Sacred Bluepint", have both been featured on Stephen Hill's "Hearts of Space" radio program, for more information, they have a website. If you like tribal space music, or the Didjeridu in particular, "Ceremony" is an excellent example of the genre. Other artists in this area include David Hudson, Kenneth Newby, Steve Roach, and Johnny Soames.

This is a great CD! I have owned the cassette tape for over 10 years. I have used the music for meditation and relaxation for many years. Too bad this CD in now out of print.
