5.0 out of 5 stars Bombastic, April 30, 2002
This review is from: Ceremony in Flames (Audio CD)
You might want to give it a try, especially if you are bored to listen to your "everlasting classics" black metal CDs. That's how i came to Wurdulak, and i must say how lucky i've been to find them amongst the multitude.

I can hardly compare them to any other bands from today's scene, actually the last time i heard something in the same vein was with "Devil's path" from dimmu borgir. That's raw, very well played (both interresting vocals and drums), not to mention that particuliar guitars tune.

Wurdulak is a kind of anachronism if you ask me, and will transport you a couple of years earlier. I've especially appreciated that last point, since i don't want to be involved anymore in today's B.M bands.

To sum it up, it's well worth having a listen.

3.0 out of 5 stars So-so Black Metal Thrash, December 20, 2006

This review is from: Ceremony in Flames (Audio CD)
This is the 2001 first full-length from "supergroup" Wurdulak. With the line-up of Maniac of Mayhem & Killjoy of Necrophagia on vocals, Iscariah of Immortal on bass, Frediablo of Gorelord & Fug of Forsaken on guitars, and Jehmod of Bloodthorn on drums I guess my expectations were pretty high. But like a lot of other so-called supergroups, they never quite seem to live up to the hype. I came away from this one feeling pretty disappointed.

Although I was expecting straight-out Black Metal, this is one of those bands that kind of traverses borders between Metal genres. In this case, they sit on the border between Black Metal and Thrash. I found I couldn't really get into their guitar sound which is way too Thrashy for my tastes. They combine this with standard screechy Black Metal vocals and blasphemous lyrics that don't really stand out.

It's not exactly bad, but it's also not terribly original or creative either. When listening to this you kind of feel like you've heard it all before. Overall I'd rate it somewhere between a 3 and a 4, probably a 3.75. It's not great, but there's also a lot worse stuff out there than this. The album artwork was pretty cool too, but it's still not enough to improve the mediocre score I give the music itself.

I'd advise buying this one only if you're into BOTH Black Metal AND Thrash, and even then I'd only say "meh, it's OK".

4.0 out of 5 stars 7 members?, August 11, 2005
This review is from: Ceremony in Flames (Audio CD)
i got this cd for like 7 or 8 dollars at a used cd shop and its worth more than that.the thing that really stands out on this cd is its originality-it doesnt sound like any other band at all.at times it sounds a bit thrashy.plus maniac and killjoy singing together.awsome!the lyrics are cool but the song written by faust stands out quite a bit.if youre one of those people who only like the nbm classics like in the nightside eclipse,de mysterrious or trassylvanian hunger you wont like this but if youre willing to venture off give them at lest a listen
