LOS JUBILADOS- "CERO FARANDULERO",

This review is from: Cero Farandulero (Audio CD)
"Los Jubilados" is an Oriente,Cuba based musical conjunto of retired musicians who decided to join forces and form a new group named "Los Jubilados" which translated from spanish means "The Retirees". This great ensemble specializes in playing the "son" and for this their first CD for Mexico's "Corazon" label they've chosen a great repertoire which is very addictive. "Ligadito Con El Son", "Echate Pa'Alla", "La Guajira, a 1960's hit of Chappottin, "La Primicia", "Abamue Madame", "Suen~a Guajira","Cero Farandulero", the album title song, "El Chaqueton", another 60's Chappottin's hit, "Cienfuegos" also from Chappottin's repertoire, "Hoja Seca", Arsenio Rodriguez "El Guao", "El Dulcerito", "Quien Eres Tu" and cuban composer Virgilio Gonzalez "La Ola Marina", will delight you and make you want to add this great CD for to your collection. Recorded in Cuba in March of 1998 and released later that same year. Great sound and rhythm that is guaranteed to please everyone. There should be more like this one!

My oldies,

This CD is great, the best son there is. Anyone who likes Cuban son, should buy it. Better to go to Santiago de Cuba and listen to them live at Casa de la Trova. The lead-singers are my Cuban "abuelos" as long as they live. It's a pity that so far Amazon does not sell their latest CD: Óyeme Cachita!, also a Corason edition. Look for it!

The world is jammed with "music" formulated, controlled, and marketed by corporations. The result is dull and repetitive. But if you look long and hard enough you might run across something like THIS! This is the real thing, la musica autentica, made by folks who really love what they are doing. I can only add a few remarks to the previous two reviews for those who have never heard this kind of music before. Son Cubano is a unique blend of African and Latin influences; Cuba's version of the Blues. These soneros are in the same class as Eliades Ochoa and Ibrahim Ferrer!!! This is the kind of music that will make you laugh, cry, and dance all at the same time. Fabulous stuff!! Por favor, sen~ores, hagan mas de esto.

The Real Buena Vista,
This review is from: Cero Farandulero (Audio CD)
Finally!! Corason records returns to the United States. Ten years before Ry Cooder went to Cuba and put together the Buena Vista Social Club the good folks at Corason records started releasing classic Cuban Son. This latest release featuring Los Jubilados is a killer. If you like the Buena Vista Social Club then you NEED to get this disc. Unlike Buena Vista, Los Jubilados is not a supergroup put together for a recording project but a working band that have been entertaining Cubans throughout their native province of Santiago for years!! This disc features great tres (the cuban six string guitar) by Rafael Lafarquez, and the best Cuban trumpet playing I have heard in years by the youngest member of the group Anibal Pacheco. Highlights of the disc are rock solid, swinging renditions of tunes by the inventors of Cuban Son, Chappotin and Arsenio Rodriguez. But, bottom line this is a great disc of roots DANCE music as it can only be found in Cuba, and as I have only yet found it on Corason records. Check out the tracks "Cero Farandulero", "El Chaqueton", "Cienfueqos" and "Quien eres tu?"!!! This disc is going to be a mainstay of my giftgiving for years!!
