This review is from: A Certain Feeling (Audio CD)
and wish i had played it sooner.
it would have been on my personal top 10 for 2008.
an excellent cd with great songs and music with melodies(a lost art)to die for.
definitely 5 stars; loved it so much, now i'll have to buy their first release "ears will pop and eyes will blink."

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark, yet head-bobbing future classic, September 20, 2009

This review is from: A Certain Feeling (Audio CD)
This album has both the character and the quality to become a classic. I don't throw that around lightly, and I don't just mean that people will remember it fondly. I mean that I expect it to influence future musicians. It is reminiscent of older albums which people now love to name-drop.

Bodies of Water depart here from their debut album, which was somewhat light and choral, to something darker and more powerful. These songs have a deep, driving sound, with lyrics like old poetry about gatherings in the forest and shadowy things under the ocean. The sound is relentless, with the music generally moving faster than the male-under-female vocals. That constant tension is nice to hear, as it knits the album together in a way that few artists manage. By the time the bombastic If I Were A Bell comes around, it is pretty powerful, and the end of The Mud Gapes Open, which is the end of the album... well, you'll see. This album does not come across very clearly in samples, unfortunately.

There is still enough energy to make A Certain Feeling fun to listen to. Water Here and Darling Be Here sit among more somber tracks as excellent rock songs on their own. Highly recommended for those who think they might like epic indie rock.
