Editorial Reviews

Kamijo is a student in Academy City, where people use science to develop supernatural abilities. The guy's got a lot of heart - luckily for a young nun named Index. She's on the run from a sorcery society that covets the astonishing 103,000 volumes of magical knowledge stored in her memory. When Index stumbles into Kamijo's life, she find a faithful friend and protector, and while Kamijo's easily the weakest kid in Academy City, he's got something else going for him: the Imagine Breaker, an unexplainable power stored in his right hand that negates the powers of others. With scientists and sorcerers attacking from all sides, the Imagine Breaker will definitely come in handy - but it's Kamijo's loyalty to Index that will be his greatest weapon in the fight to keep her safe.

5.0 out of 5 stars science magic, and a who lot of harem March 16, 2013

it is a little disappointing that this show is a bit underrated in the US considering it is by far one of the best series out there. to make thing short and cliched, boy had bad luck with anti-super nature power in his hand who live in a city where everyone have superpower due to science, meet girl who getting chase by people who have supernatural power by magic. cliched and predictable right? yes, but that only the surface of this show. the protagonist is extremely likable in a way that he is the underdog of the show, consider his power is worthless in everyday life, but put in a situation where he must rise to the challenge and become a hero. he fight using wit, skill and word instead of ur average over the top power up. in fact, throu out the show, he didnt receive a single power up, he just enter the tray because he knew that if he didnt help them, nobody will and they are doom, that my friend is what it truthfully mean to be brave, considering he literally have to fight, and fire deity, a reality warper, an super"hero", a angel and a doppelganger, in this first part.
The second part have is my personal favorite since the special thing about this show is that there are never just one protagonist, everyone have their reason, everyone have their motive, the person u fight doesnt necessary always be a bad guy. for example, one of the antagonist of one chapter, become the second hero of the series, or more accurately,an anti hero who seek redemption for his sin.
the novel will eventually introduce a lot more character, and explain how each of their fate intertwine. please support this series so that it get the reputation it desert since anime like this is what truthfully deserting of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally Cool December 21, 2012

Review for part 1

Kamijo lives in Academy City, where people use science to develop supernatural abilities. Kamijo doesn't have any supernatural abilities, other than being able to cancel out supernatural powers. One day he meets a nun called Index. Index holds 103,000 volumes of magic knowledge in her memory. There are a couple of sorcerers form her sect that are after her. Kamijo decides that he's going to protect her. He learns that Index only remembers the past year of her life, and upon fighting the sorcerers, he also learns that her brain can only hold one year of memories. Every year her memories are reset and all that remains is the knowledge of the 103,000 volumes. Kamijo finds a way to save her and prevent her from having to erase her memories. Unfortunately, that's just the beginning of the journey.

This series is a lot of fun. It has a lot of drama, action, and comedy. The animation, voice acting, and soundtrack are all very good. The characters are interesting and very memorable. This series reminds me of Shakugan No Shana, D. Gray-Man, Fate Stay/Night, and Air. If you liked any of those, you'll probably enjoy this series too. It's very well rounded, there is are several different themes in this series: Sci-Fi, Drama, and harem are all major themes. I think that just about any anime fan can enjoy A Certain Magical Index. I loved part 1, and I can't wait for part 2. It's probably best to buy this from Amazon, Rightstuf wants almost double the price that Amazon is asking.

Review For Part 2
The above is the review for part 1. For some reason Amazon put my review for part one under the part 2 section as well. I'll review part 2 below.

Part 2 begins where part 1 left off. Kamijo has decided to help Misaka save her clone sisters.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is one of the shows that got me watching anime March 3, 2013
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I won't go describe what goes on in the show, others have already done that. Although, it looks like the Amazon reviewer only skimmed through since his description wanders off base. This show is one of my favorites for the action and the humor. It took me a while to get used to Funimation's subs, since they make a few leaps that others don't. For example, they have Kuroko calling Misaka 'Sissy' instead of 'onee-sama'. I guess this is ok, but other companies that did subs for this just left the term of respect the way it was in the subtitles.
Overall, this is a very entertaining anime.

5.0 out of 5 stars Overall Enjoyable If Somewhat Generic Series December 20, 2012
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
If you've seen other anime series like Shakugan No Shanna,Fate/Stay Night or Full Metal Alchemist then the story on this series shouldn't surprise you to much. The series two primary characters are Tōma Kamijō a young male high school student who possesses a right hand that negates all magical/psychic/divine powers but also humorously in the anime also negates good luck for the most part though not all of it, and then we have a young female dressed as a holy nun named Index Librorum Prohibitorum who possess inside her mind a total of 103,000 magical texts and is usually guarded closely by the holy church which have their own somewhat dark agenda in the history of Index. Like the previous mentioned series this one will have the usual but entertaining mix of action/humor/drama/romance/sorrow but like with half the series that do this the characters and storyline of the series make it a very entertaining and enjoyable series. The animation is clear and sharp and somewhat reminiscent of the style of Shakugan No Shanna also as expected from Funimation the English dubbed cast did a terrific job with their character roles and the Japanese subbed as always did a superb job too. The series set is in the more reasonable price range due mostly because this is not a blu-ray/dvd combo set but just the standard regular dvd release, but the set is sure to come out on blu-ray with enough fan support.

So if you like mystical psychic battles with a mix of hilarity and romance with a cast of endearing characters and decent story here's one to add to your anime library......
