5.0 out of 5 stars Home Video nail it with "No Certain Night or Morning.", October 21, 2006

"Wow.. what was that ?"I am startled by a sound I didn't hear in the cd the 15 times I played it before. All these electronic sounds, harmonic voices and rhythmic guitars dance into your ears in waves and weaves of morphing, kaleidoscopic texture. And then, humorously...there are the robot guns..in Superluminal and That You Might. As for lyrics, I like to sing Gas Tank out loud with it's funky syncopation. Sleep Sweet and Penguin are romantic, which is refreshing after the monotone and militant Melon. Pidpunk is the new anthem of the under 18 crowd chomping at the bit. We is enigmatic and comforting in a strange sort of way. Dialogue Box is pretty dark and disarming once you read the words. Confession suddenly sheds it's smooth skin to become a rock song, replete with distortion. Much versatility here. Home Video are showing a breadth of talent and originality that were only hinted at in Citizen EP. Don't hesitate to buy this, it gets better and better every time you listen to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing album--Defines several years of my life, April 8, 2011
This review is from: No Certain Night Or Morning (Audio CD)
This is one of those albums that sticks with me. I started listening to these guys during medical school when I really needed something to get me through the days. The music speaks of being in a different place and having to adapt to a new environment. I listen to this when I'm sad, when I'm happy, and when I'm in between. It's perfect for studying, chilling, driving, interpretive dancing...whatever. As a semi-professional musician myself, I can really tell that this duo has some classical training. Listen to it, and get their new album, too.

I'm an artist, and I love driving beats when I make glass in my studio. This is techno, hip, urban, and beautiful lyrics.

5.0 out of 5 stars BUY THIS ALBUM!, September 4, 2009
This review is from: No Certain Night Or Morning (Audio CD)
These guys are sheer genius and simply one of the best things to come out of south Louisiana in a LONG, LONG time (even if they did migrate to warmer reception in New York). That migration probably serves as the basis for most of the record, as the songs carry a thick air of feeling distant and relocated. Nowhere is the idea of moving to NYC presented better than in closing track "Melon;" the gripping, deadpan delivery of carnage and death can't help but conjure up images of watching the 9/11 attacks. That's not to say that the album is by any means political or willing to beat listeners over the head with patriotism, but it gives you a real grasp of the emotional depth that can come from such minimalistic delivery. Another highlight, "Superliminal" can't help but stand out with its thundering bass drums and an opening line like 'Suddenly, my life is in my hands, and I'm choking it blue in the face." The album is at equal points morbid and beautiful. It's like listening to a very fragile and broken person recounting the things they've seen. While the description I've given may sound more fitting for a metal album, I promise there's nothing abrassive here; just quiet, intriguing electronics with very thought-provoking lyrics. Buy it. Love it. Digest it. After that, go find the new EP and enjoy even further evolution from these two.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great effort from just 2 guys, September 17, 2007

These guys blow me away, their song writing and instrumentation reminds me so much of Radiohead I call them 'Radiohead-lite'.

The only drawbacks about this band to me are the singer's voice which gets a little 'whiny' irritating...and he has a kind of drunken slurring of words in some songs that makes it impossible to understand him. Some of the songs verge on greatness, I keep thinking that Radiohead should remix some of their stuff...it would make an incredible album.

All in all, for two guys to remotely throw this album together is an effort not commonly seen.

5.0 out of 5 stars That You Might, November 6, 2006
This review is from: No Certain Night Or Morning (Audio CD)
Finally. Good God, how long did it take? How many stacks of audio pulp. Before I could put something on the playlist to preceed "I Might Be Wrong" (Radiohead) and follow "Black Melt" (Massive Attack). Opiate for the insomniac in all of us! If you don't know what trip-hop is, what place computerization has (if OK Computer was "a little out there" in your view), then this is not the right move.
