5.0 out of 5 stars Certainly read CERTAINTY! January 11, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I love this book! The story is one that is familiar to anyone who reads YA books, but the paranormal twist is a new one that is so different from the usual "I see ghosts" stuff. I was hooked from the first page and I wasn't disappointed at all in the way the story unfolded.

Easy to read and hard to put down CERTAINTY is a story about love, family, life and death. I wish that this was a series, but there is definitely an end to the story which I was glad for. I didn't have to guess what would happen in a few years time because the author was good enough to write the whole story. Some of the characters were a little shallow in their development but the story was so good I just didn't care. The characters are easy to like and easy to feel like you could know someone like them in real life. It seemed to be edited by a professional which I was eternally grateful for because nothing ruins a great story quite like a terrible editing job.

If you are thinking about reading this book but you aren't sure if you will like it I say go for it. I can't think of anyone I wouldn't recommend this book to.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great! May 8, 2013

Fantastic YA read! I was drawn in from the very beginning. The characters are very engaging and the storyline is nearly flawless. I haven't read anything with the subject matter before and loved the twist the author put on Ren's gift.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not enough pizazz... November 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
First I would like to say that I did like this book. It was very slow; however it kept me intrested. There was too much information and I just wanted the story to move along. This book was very clean and absolutley loved that religion/faith/prayer was brought into this book! It was one of my favorite parts.

What drew me more to the story was Mackenzie's family. I loved all of them. they reminded me of my family and the love that we have for each other. The paranormal aspect of the story was very lacking. I thought there was going to be some nail biting, edge of my seat, I can't sleep drama, but there wasn't. I was very disappointed by that. Instead I kept reading because I wanted to know what was going to happen with Derek and Kyle.

I was also disappointed with the romance/relationship with Mackenzie and Ren. I have a difficult time understanding what drew them together? Did Ren fall in love with Mackenzie because of her adoration for him? Why did Mackenzie fall in love with Ren? It was like, ok lets just put you two together. I didn't get the romance, especialy after Ren didn't want to be in love?? Made no sense to me.

There were also many typo's and grammer errors. If you can get past that, then you might enjoy the story. It's clean and it has an END, which I liked! No series on this, YES!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Promising...but Missed the Mark October 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
After reading the synopsis of Certainty by Eileen Sharp, I had to read it. Ren can see the future through ghosts who speak to him. When he meets MacKenzie, the girl he knows he's going to fall in love with, things are complicated because of the information he knows about her brother's tragic accident. The cover made the synopsis even more intriguing and I really thought it would have a creepy type of storyline and a forbidden love thrown in for flair, but I was wrong.

Unfortunately, the story was weak. I was shocked at the amount of filler in this book. A ton of unneeded information that built up to nothing. You are halfway through the book before anything actually happens. Certainty is told in first person through the perspective of Ren and MacKenzie. While I like this idea, it just didn't work out so well. There were no defining characteristics between the two and when the internal personal monologue went on, I had to think about who's perspective it was. In all honesty, it felt as though maybe this was meant to be a short story but the author decided to put more information than what was needed just to make the book longer. You could read the first 10, middle 20 and last 20 pages and not be lost as to what the story is.

Certainty needs an editor as well. There weren't too many spelling or grammar errors but certain characters' actions were repetitive and not described any differently. Also, some of the language was not really convincing for any 16 year old. I don't know any teen who's used the word "derriere" in today's society.

All that being said, I did see a glimmer of promise in Certainty. There were a few descriptions (mostly when there was raw emotion) that were flawless and the actual story without the filler is pretty good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprised April 2, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I actually got this book for free, so I wasn't expecting it to be that good, maybe even terrible. I was very pleasantly surprised. The characters are well developed. The storyline is unique and really well told. The climax and the end was surprising and exciting. Some people said it was exciting enough, but I think it was. It had a lot of tension and suspense, but it wasn't just about that. Too many books don't go any deeper than the plot and the thrilling action. This one did.
