Great resource!,

This review is from: A+ Certification Bible (Hardcover)
I am currently studying for the A+ Certification exams. I have a little experience in this topic area and am looking to clean up my knowledge. This study guide doesn't just give facts but explains concepts in a clear-to-understand fashion. There are plenty of screenshots, diagrams, and pictures to help illustrate the points covered. I would highly recommend this book!! I have not written the exams yet because I am still reading, but I am extremely pleased so far!

Ace the A+ exam with this book.,

I'm using Ed Tetz's book to study for my A+ exams, and I have found it to be very clear and easy to understand. The "A+ Certification Bible" is a fairly comprehensive technical computer book , that provides end of chapter multiple choice test questions. This book also includes simulate test questions on a CD-rom. It is also packed with pictures, diagrams, and descriptive learning objectives. This is a great book for computer owners and professional technicians alike. It has large easy to read type, is well illustrated . This is a great book to help you "ace" the A+ exam. I definitely recommend this book.

stay away from that thing,

I'm technician with over 5 years of experience and got Server+, Network+ and hardware certification by some major computer manufacturer.I bought this book based on my experience with Server+ Bible which is very good. A+ Bible made of 2 parts - hardware and software preparation. software part is O.K., but hardware part is quite nasty. it appears that somebody without serious (if any) hardware experience just grabed info from different sources and put it all together without really knowing what they were talking about. examples: book claims, that AC adapter for laptops "converts analog signals book claims, that there are "ISA, PCI, AGP bus in portable computers" and you should consider it when "upgrading CPU on portable system" book claims, that "dust and dirt on your shoes create static dischare and sintetic clothes promote static becasue they are good conductors of electricity", if that is not an outmost idiocy I don't know what it is then. (static is caused by 2 non-conductors separating - just rob a comb on some wool blanket or something - and not by dust on shoes) also book contains some incomplete and unsafe "advise" on discharging CRT with a screwdriver and a wire, which could get you hurt if you follow it. in printing section stages of printing process are not described properly. technical book that contains this kind of nonsense can't have any credibility and should not be on the market. if you are technical person you'll be probably greatly outraged by that kind of writing, and if you are not technical you wouldn't want to put that kind of garbage into your head anyway. there are some good pictures of cables and screenshots in the book, software section and exams on the CD are O.K., otherwise the book deserves 1 star.

Well presented and comprehensive,

The A+ Certification Bible is an addition to the rapidly expanding bookshelf of study guides which aim to address the new A+ objectives set out by the compTIA.Each chapter within this book, targets specific objectives by providing comprehensive information on the relevant technologies, end of chapter questions, scenarios, and a number of lab exercises. By injecting an element of personality into its text, avoiding technical waffle and making liberal use of photos and diagrams, the A+ Certification Bible is as pleasurable to read as it is informative. Due to its comprehensive and accessible content I recommend this book as an essential purchase for those who want a resource which will serve as a useful reference in the future as well as providing the necessary knowledge to pass the A+ exams.

Excellent breakdown of the exam.,

CompTIA has released the newest version of the A+ exam and it is very important to make sure you stay on top of the objectives in order to ensure you pass both exams on the first go round.
In this 1,150 page book there is seven parts, each part taking a piece of the exams and breaking them down in a manner that makes it understandable and covers the exam objective very well.
From part 1 - Hardware like CPU, motherboards, RAM, CMOS to part2 - installing and configuring hardware, peripherals and portables. Part 3 is the troubleshooting section. While part 4 deals with the OS basics in the areas like commands and file management.
Part5 is the installation and configuration of Windows 9.x, NT Workstation and 2000 Professional followed up with part 6 as the troubleshooting section for the Operating systems. Finally Part 7 - networking. There are labs; review questions step by step instructions and cd with test question using the Boson engine.
Overall I would say the author has put together a real winner.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: A+ Certification Bible (Hardcover)
I ordered this book right after failing the OS part of the A+ test, in spite that I already had planned it, boo. I like this much very much because the chapters are quite short, about 15 to 20 pages each, something that help me keep focus on the subject. It comes with several questions at the beginning and at the end of each chapter, labs and scenarios. Includes nice pictures of peripherals but could've used more in the other chapters given that there are a lot of visual learners out there including myself. The companion CD is kind of ok, I'll give it 3 stars because practice questions are limited, 75 max for some and 10 for others. It contains a couple of different software testing engines but none really provide strong aid for the test. The book only weighs 3lbs which isn't a bother to carry around with you for studying in your spare time. For me it was a pleasure to order and read this book since that a lot of things that weren't explained at length in the A+ Certification Training Guide by Charles J. Brooks(which I also have), were in this book. I strongly recommend this book as preparation for the real thing. I did indeed a good addition to my bookshelf by buying this great book.

First Chapter has mistakes.,
By Michael (Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A+ Certification Bible (Hardcover)
I am new into this world of A+, and I picked this book up and read the first chapter. In the first chapter there were a couple mistakes. Not that it mattered much because I figured out what they were talking about. But It made me fear what they would mess up on later in the book, and the way the presented the explinations. They would ask you questions on the review that were not explained in the chapter. I read the chapter 3 times to make sure I did not miss what they were talking about. And needless to say I did not skip a beat. They simply did not explain what they were quizing you on. I know a little about computer repairs. If you are an expeinced computer technincion this book might be ok for you because you could pick up on the mistakes. However if you are new to the field they could confuse you and fill your head with incorrect teachings. Hope this was help full.

Worth the Money,

I bought this book, along with the A+ Passport by Mike Meyers and passed both tests with no problem. With any cert test real world experience helps but with these two books, even a complete newbe could pass. The test software with the book was pretty solid, I've seen worse.

Comprehensive,but poorly edited / rushed,
This review is from: A+ Certification Bible (Hardcover)
The first edition of this book covers a great deal of subject matter & helped me to catch a couple of 'gotchas' that I otherwise would have missed on the test. However, its poorly edited, non-cohesive, & misleading writing is almost unacceptable considering its purpose is to teach a technical & precise subject. The fact that it has 7 contributing authors comes through in the way it feels as though paragraphs from seperate books were pasted together. Despite 14 editors the number of errors makes me wonder if a draft copy of this book sent to print by accident. Typos I understand but graphics with info that conflicts the text, incorrect answer keys, & questions that were not covered in the text make this book difficult at times. Having to research an answer you were sure was correct just to find out the answer key in the book is wrong is frustrating. Despite this I did find the book useful due to its breadth & method of forcing me to do 'fact-checking'. If you can pick up this book cheap ( got mine for $5 ) and have the time to read through & 'FIX' this book it may be worth it. Excellent coverage of small details & the OS side of the test. Not good for the novice or without a more accurate companion book due to the editing problems.
