4.0 out of 5 stars Good, some technical errors, but still worth the $$.
This is a good test simulator, but it has some technical errors, and some of the questions read: "Select the best answer." When you look at the correct answer, you find 2-3 are marked, even though it tells you to select the 'best' answer! This is very annoying. One of the better test preparation utilities. It closely mimics the real thing in the way it is...

3.0 out of 5 stars It was a decent study companion
I believe it did help me pass both of the tests in the real world. But a few of the questions are worded incorrectly. At least one answer was just plain wrong. I think if they had run a spell check through the database and had someone double check what answers were selected, I would have given it 4. If there was a way to track results and not have the same questions...

When you look at the correct answer, you find 2-3 are marked, even though it tells you to select the 'best' answer! This is very annoying. One of the better test preparation utilities. It closely mimics the real thing in the way it is presented to you, and the way it allows you to mark questions and review them. Overall, a good product, flawed, but still worth the price. Good luck on the test.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Software to test your Knowledge for A+ certification, August 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A+ Certification Top Score Software (Textbook Binding)
The cd was very good in judging your stengths on the various domains of the two tests. The actual test questions are a bit harder than the actual A+ tests. Some of the answers are wrong, a bit annoying. I also used New Riders A+ fast track and A+ certification training guide with the CD rom. Got a 88 score on the core. Take the DOS/WIN this week.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Score for Top Score, April 25, 2000
This review is from: A+ Certification Top Score Software (Textbook Binding)
What defines the qualifications of a good pc technician? What materials do you study from in order to pass the A+ exam? Everywhere you look someone is coming out with some software package that says they will help you pass the exam and you have to decide which one is best for you.

New Riders has put together a study package that may make the decision process easier and the cost lower. Following the simple and easy install I was up and running in a matter of minutes, what I found was a wealth of information on both A+ exams.

With over 1000, that's correct 1000, questions to choose from you have been given a great opportunity to pass the exam before it changes to adaptive. There's practice exams, study cards, flash cards, item reviews and score reports per objective to monitor your progress.

The best feature of this package is the ability to customize it to fit your learning needs and that will make the process of certification easier for you. New Riders website is filled with a host of other books and software on just about every certification available.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent "prep" tool, June 27, 1999
By A Customer

I recommend it, however in my experience very few questions presented actually appeared on the test. I used this in conjunction with the Fast Track book for only the essential information and passed almost flawlessly in under 20 minutes on each of the tests. In a nutshell, get it to motivate you to study the heck out of the material, but don't count on any of the questions showing up. Which is a good thing, otherwise everyone would be certified.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Practice Tool, May 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A+ Certification Top Score Software (Textbook Binding)
I recommend using any test simulation software as a guide rather than a determination of your skill level. The difficulty of test simulations can vary and therefore you may get better scores on one over another. What I suggest is using an average from the various test simulations you may be using to determine your readiness for the exam. Generally, if you've studied well, took 3 or more test simulations and passed them all, then you may be ready. This software is a fine prep tool. The interface is simple and there were no bugs. The most important skill you can get from this test simulation is in improving the amount of time to read and understand the question and then to answer it within the time limits of the exams. However, you must study from other texts before using this test prep tool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Right on the money......., May 13, 1999

This review is from: A+ Certification Top Score Software (Textbook Binding)
Overall I found this piece of software a great help. It simulated the actual A+ testing environment extremely well. After using this software, I felt quite at home with the actual exam, and didn't really need to take the exam tutorial to familiarise myself with the format.

The study cards option is great - it's strength is in it's versatility. You can select the number of questions for your test, and include or exclude various objective areas by selecting/deselecting the check box. If you're weak in particular areas, this is a great way to concentrate on those specific areas. You can check the correct answers and an explanations as you go.

Overall the quality of the questions were OK - I did find the occasional stupid question, and one where the stated answer was incorrect. But generally fairly representative of those that actually appeared in the actual A+ exams. Just prior to my exam (May 1999), I was regularly scoring around 80% for a full 70 question test on this software. My official A+ exam results were 92 core 86 DOS/Win - so if anything, these questions may be a little more difficult than the actual exam questions.

Overall I think this was an excellent supplement to my other study material. (I used Mike Myers A+ Certification Exam guide, and Jim Williams A+ Exam Notes Dos/Win. Mikes book is excellent for the Core, but a bit weak on the Dos/Win part - hence the addition of Jim Williams book to reinforce this area - it was great)

3.0 out of 5 stars Great test questions, disappointing book, March 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A+ Certification Top Score Software (Textbook Binding)
The test questions are in depth and accurate. When using the flash cards the answer is accompanied by a reason. You can review and print out questions.I was dissapointed by the book. I was expecting a bigger book. What I got was a 50 page manual describing the objectives of the A+ certification, and how to use the CD, which by the way, has a very small content. (I think it was 66mb.) For the price of the CD and the pamphlet that came with it New Riders has very little invested, but if it makes you pass the test , who cares.
