Each subject will be presented in clear and direct language, with useful and well explained code examples. Sample questions will accompany each subject, as will references to recommended reading (Allaire documentation, Allaire course work, and existing MCP ColdFusion books).

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

ColdFusion's popularity continues to grow, and along with that so has the demand for experienced developers. Once upon a time claiming to be a ColdFusion developer was easy – the product was simple enough that with a minimal investment of time and energy developers could realistically consider themselves experts.

This is not the case anymore. The product line has grown both in actual products and in their complexity, and the levels of expertise and experience among developers are diverse. Claiming to be an expert is not that easy, and recognizing legitimate expertise is even harder.

And this is where certification comes into play. Formal official certification helps to mark a threshold that explicitly separates developers by their knowledge and experience, making is possible to identify who is who.

The Certified ColdFusion Developer certification is not an easy exam, and examinees are tested on a wide range of topics – from ColdFusion and CFML to SQL and database concepts to HTML and Internet fundamentals. And that's why you need this book

To prepare for your exam you should start at the beginning of the book and systematically work you way through it. The book flow, layout, and form-factor have all been especially designed to make reviewing content as pleasant an experience as possible. The content has been designed to be highly readable, and digestible in small bite sized chunks so that it'll feel more like reading that studying.

Once you have reviewed all content, reread the topics that you feel you need extra help brushing up on. Topics are all covered in highly focused and very manageable (and cross referenced) chapters so that you can easily drill-down to the exact content you need.

Even after the exam, you'll find that the style and design of this book makes it an invaluable desktop reference tool as well.

And as an added bonus, this book contains a coupon for 15% off the exam fee (so you'll get most of the cost of the book back).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, A Must Buy For CFers, April 10, 2001

This book will prepare you for the exam! Thursday: 4/5/01, I started reading from page one. Saturday: 4/7/01, I was on the last page! That's how smooth it is written.

Ben Forta emphasized that it is not a cheat-sheet, but instead it helps with all the fundamentals of CF. I highly recommend this book for those that have some experience on their hands but need the extra assurance to pass the exam.

Today: 4/10/01, I took and pass the Certified ColdFusion Developer exam! I wouldn't say the book was the reason I pass, but it sure built a lot of fundamental skills and confident in me to pass.

If you feel like you might pass the exam this book will make you feel even better about your skills.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great reference tool/study aid., May 18, 2001

This review is from: Certified ColdFusion Developer Study Guide (Paperback)
Ben Forta definitely hit a home run with this book. I am impressed with how much information was packed into such a small book. I have not taken the CF (ColdFusion) certification test as of yet, but I feel a lot better prepared for it now. The chapters are loaded with good information, and are seriously condensed (no fluff, or unnecessary garbage to increase the number of pages). The quizzes at the end of the chapters are excellent. These questions are by far more difficult than anything else I have seen on CF certifications (i.e. the CF certification web site, and the CF_Buster test prep). In addition, this book is a great reference guide. If you are unsure of how to do something in CF, this book more than likely will tell you how it can be done. This book offers a lot more than I would expect from a book that's under 400 pages. If you want to prepare for the certification test, buy this book; or, if you just want to take your CF knowledge to the next level, buy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Master Returns, April 2, 2001
This review is from: Certified ColdFusion Developer Study Guide (Paperback)
Ben Forta has done it again. I used his first two books to learn ColdFusion, and this new certification study guide is sure to be another bestseller and authoritative source for ColdFusion authors. It's packed with examples, easy to understand concepts, and great summary/review sections. A must-read for anyone who wants to be an Allaire Certified ColdFusion developer.
