5.0 out of 5 stars Read this book before go to RHCE Exam !
My boss give me this book two days ago. He want me take an RHCE exam! I started by read the 50 pre-test questions on this book. And I found that I am not ready to take the exam yet. Fortunately this book give us a good material that we need to do and remember before we take the exam. This book also good for newbies who want to know Red Hat.Of course, If you want to know...

2.0 out of 5 stars not updated and with a CD for win only!
the book is useful, but it covers up to redhat 6.2. From the 7.x series many things have been changed (xinetd, kernel 2.4, iptables, directories ecc ecc). It should be necessary an update to cover the 7.1 version. What I found very disappointing is the CDROM with flash animation working ONLY in a windows environment. 3.0 out of 5 stars how old is this book?, July 13, 2001

This book is actually not bad. Tha auther seems a bit unsure what he wants to talk about at the begining though adn it is based on linux redhat 6.1 and 6.2. Where is the 7.1 version? half of the book is out dated and it is about time they released something up to date. For example the section on inetd should now be xinetd and the details are copletely different. Also some of the answers to the example questions are wrong and I can prove it!

1.0 out of 5 stars Outdated, October 7, 2003

This book is out dated. It is based on Red Hat version 6.2. There have been many changes since then that could frustrate the reader who is trying to follow the examples in the book. If you are still using an older version of Red Hat, this is definetly a good reference, otherwise, wait for the second edition!

2.0 out of 5 stars Useless CD, June 11, 2002
This review is from: RHCE Red Hat Certified Engineer Study Guide Exam RH302 (With CD-ROM) (Hardcover)
The much-vaunted CD with the electronic version of the book can be used only under Windows. The only place this is mentioned is in a README file on the CD, which can only be viewed once you have bought the book. The primary reason I got this book was for the CD and as my laptop does not run Windows, I have wasted my money. Don't make the same mistake I did!

This book also give the reference-link point to the related documents we need to read for more detail. For preparation to the RHCE exam this book is complete. It will be a good bridge for you. By reading this book you will know in which part you need more learning and practice before go to the Exam. If you think this book is to heavy to carry in your bag, you can use the CD from this book. It contains all the text and RHCE test engine!

1.0 out of 5 stars Outdated Version, October 23, 2007
This review is from: RHCE Red Hat Certified Engineer Study Guide Exam RH302 (With CD-ROM) (Hardcover)
I bought this book without reading the reviews and I say don't buy this book unless you have a back dated version of RH Linux you need to support. Get a more current version that covers RH 5.x.

I got this book to prepare myself before RedHatCertifiedEngineer. I found that this guide makes me feel that I'm not yet ready to take the exam. At least there is something to rate my RedHat Linux skills since I learn it myself

3.0 out of 5 stars Not sure yet, February 16, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: RHCE Red Hat Certified Engineer Study Guide Exam RH302 (With CD-ROM) (Hardcover)
I just got this book tonight and I decided I would take a look at what the cd has to offer. It has the entire book on cd as well as flash cards and such. I figured with the book being for Red Hat linux I might not be able to run it on a windows machine if God forbid I ever needed to. Notice the word LINUX. The cd is full of .exe files that won't run in linux. This of course means that if I want to try things out in linux that I have just read about and all I have is the cd, I have to stop and reboot into linux to make it work. Kind of pathetic if you ask me. RHCE is supposed to be for people who know and use linux not Windoze users.
