just passed cert with flying colors,

I was concerned after reading these reviews. True this book is very short(112 pgs), but a few things can be said. Eventhough not representative of all questions asked on the exam you need to know everything in it for the exam. My suggestion is to memorize this book then goto macromedia and print the study guide for the cert. Cross reference the two and definetly KNOW whatever is alike with the two. Then open up the ever useful flash help. That is how I passed --so in that I recommend the book because it gives you a map of the exam (the author was a contributor for the exam questions)and ends up being free with the 15% coupon for the exam.

Don't base your readiness on this book.,

The book is too short and lacks any real substance. You get as much, if not more information from the online help that comes with Flash MX. After reading the study guide, I looked at the sample questions that Macromedia has on their site for the Flash Designer test. The book didn't even help answer those sample questions. The only good thing about the guide is the 15% discount off of the exam, which pretty much covers the cost of this guide.

wait for the Macromedia Flash MX 2004 Certified Designer Study Guide by James English, it will be out in Nov.
The exam has 4 domains; Planning, Visual Design, Experience Design, and Optimization, Pub, Workflow. Learn these 4 areas by using the program, reading the manual, and refer to the Macromedia web site.

Good but you still need a bit more...,

I passed the certification, but the information on this book was not enough. I used it as a reference along with the online help and the test outline from the Macromedia site. If you you don't know what all of the titles of all of the items on that outline are, then don't waste your money taking the test. The book is good, but it would have been better to cover a bit more. I would say it covered around 50% of the test, unfortually you need to get at least 70% to pass.

Certified Macromedia Flash MX Designer Study Guide,

This review is from: Certified Macromedia Flash MX Designer Study Guide (Paperback)
First off amazon says that this book is 412 pages. Ok I'm very disappointed because the version of the book I got is only 112 pages. This book is way too small to be a study guide for any test. Each chapter only has 3 review questions. I was really disappointed with this book the only reason I gave it 2 stars is because you get %15 percent off when taking the ($$$) dollar test. I think I will wait until someone does a better version of this book before taking the Flash MX Designer test.

Totally Misrepresented...,
By Douglas King (Aurora, IL United States) - See all my reviews

[this book has been]described as being 408 pages when it is actually only 116 pages, quite a BIG difference. This has happened numerous times with books from Macromedia Press. I am a Certified Dreamweaver 4 Developer and had the same experience with the Dreamweaver 4 Developer Study Guide by Macromedia Press, the book was described as being much more than what it was, in size and content. How can you possibly provide the information necessary to pass any kind of "real" certification exam in 116 pages. I have skimmed through the book and have to say... there are FAR BETTER resources to study for the certification exam. The tutorial and users manual included with Flash MX itself for example. This book is published by Macromedia Press and is another example of how Macromedia is turning into another Microsoft... the more popular they get the worse there products get. The only reason I gave this book 2 stars, is because it includes a 15% off coupon for the certification exam, so it pays for itself. My only concern now is, how valuable is the "Flash MX Designers Certification" if this skimpy book is the preparitory tool to measure competency. Douglas King, CIW Master Site Designer

15 % Discount on Test,

We all pretty much agree that the book is rather thin and covers topics in a very minimal and thin way, but after all, we were going to get our free 15 % off on the test. I went to vue.com, after buying the book, signed up for the exam and just when i put in the voucher code a nice message came up: Great job! I don't recomed this book simply cause you can buy something better, covering all topics extensivly and in details.

this book seems to be done in a rush. few sample questions. no mock test no nothing. even the promised sample test at [website] is not up yet. too few examples and not detail enough. this guide is as good as not having it.

i just passed the test. well, as mentioned in other reviews, you need more than this book. and yes, the book is too thin.however, this book will give you a taste of the questions for the exam, the overall difficulties of the review questions is somewhat similar to the ones in the exam. afterall, its free if u are planning to take the exam coz it gives you 15% off the exam fee. so why not buying it?? |
